.Prologue.


Blinding white and coldness. She dashed out of the pile of snow. Her family was nowhere in sight. There was crashing through the bushes, and terrified yowling. And then there was silence.

Carefully and cautiously, she took a few steps forward and glanced around.

“Rainkit! Torrentkit! Cascadekit!”

Her desperate mewing broke through the eerie quiet of the leafbare day as she bounded around, frantically searching for her family.

“Mom! Dad!”

There was no reply. With a sense of foreboding and loss, she sat down, blinking at the blinding pure white of the snow.

“…Anyone?”

And still there was nothing to comfort the lone kit,

and still there was nothing but silence.
