Character’s Name:
Hannibal
‘Hannibal the Cannibal’
Gender:
Tom
Breed of Cat:
Mixed
Age:
Adult
Character Description:
Hannibal has been described as short, but with noticeable wiry strength and dignity of bearing that makes him seem more physically able than his age presents. He has yellow eyes that spark red in reflected light and even rows of small white very sharp teeth.
His left paw has a second middle ‘finger’ next to the first, perfectly replicated; the rarest form of polydactyly.
Character Personality:
Hannibal is a feline who is portrayed to be intellectually brilliant, but at the same time, primal in his mannerisms. His natural posture is rigid and still, but swift when required, and he tilts his head to one side when listening. Other unique traits include a remarkable photographic memory and it’s been mentioned that he can have 'several trains of thought at once, without distraction from any' due to the hemispheres of his brain acting independently. His voice is described as having a metallic ring to it, as though he speaks with a perpetual tension. He is also noted to possess an admirable level of patience, so much that he did not complain when he waited four years for just the right moment to escape from being imprisoned.
He organizes his memories in an elaborate memory palace. His unique intellect and memory has been described as being the product of well-developed Ars Memoriae, or Memory Palace form of mnemonic discipline. The young Hannibal was taught this discipline by his mentor, Losthope. Hannibal is able to remember entire events and can even recall entire conversations years after they occurred. It’s been also raised the fascinating, and possibly original, proposition that the palace can be a dangerous place for its owner. One such event was one time when he retired to his palace in search of comfort only to become haunted by horrific memories he, or his subconscious mind, had stored there in numerous oubliettes. He also uses it as a sanctuary; when he was tortured by those who had imprisoned him, he entered his memory palace to place his face on the cold surface of a stone that he had touched while he lived near it with Heartless.
Even though he has been branded a "pure sociopath", his general behavior fails to perfectly exhibit the standard forms of the condition. In order to be diagnosed as a true sociopath, he must exhibit all three characteristics from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual's checklist. He is seen to only exhibit two: a lack of remorse and habitual deceitfulness. However, Hannibal himself chooses to believe that "Nothing happened to me. I happened."
Hannibal also displays an uncharacteristic compassion for kits, perhaps because they remind him of how he was before he turned to murder.
It has been also suggested that Hannibal is not an individual suffering from a mental disorder, but rather a feline who exhibits an unrestrained psyche. This makes him behave out of impulse rather than conforming to society's view of acceptable behavior, and it is this combined with his vast catalogue of skills makes other cats both envy and fear him.
"There's no word for what he is."
Because of the particularly strong bond that Hannibal had with his sister, it is believed that Heartfall's murder led him to cannibalism in order to avenge her. This neurosis then developed into compulsive serial murder.
History:
When Hannibal was six moons old, he was introduced to his sister named Heartfall, a pretty white she-cat with one blue eye, and one green eye. The two shared a bond that was particularly strong, even for siblings. When Hannibal was nine moons, his family left their clan to live in a cave in the forest in order to escape a war. Three moons pass and when Hannibal is twelve moons, his parents and mentor are killed by a band of their previous clan’s enemies.
The cave was then invaded by a group of former clan mates turned rogues. Hannibal, Heartfall, and other rogue and clan kits were rounded up by the rogues to be used as food during the cold winter. Six moon old Heartfall was cannibalized, but Hannibal escaped, to be severely disturbed by the incident.
After the rogues fled, a disturbed and mute Hannibal wandered the forests until he was found by a group of cats from a different clan.
The group returned Hannibal to his family's clan, which now contained mainly a bunch of orphaned kits. The war had many lasting effects on the kits, and many of them became bullies. Hannibal surprisingly did not, but he was most certainly violent. While living there, he frequently attacked and severely wounded many of his fellow orphans, but only those who bullied, hurt or insulted others. Hannibal used his memories of the leader of the group of rogues, Vladis, to assist him in hurting the bullying orphans. Hannibal was surprisingly well behaved around the younger orphans, often letting them tease him a little, letting them believe him to be a crazed deaf-mute, and giving them his food that he rarely received.
Moons later, he returned to the cave and the scene of his sister's murder. Upon finding Heartfall's remains, he gave her a proper burial. One member of the group of rogues who killed her, Finrir, arrived at the scene intent on killing Hannibal. Hannibal surprised and murdered him. Hannibal then dispensed poetic justice by consuming Finrir's face, his first willful act of cannibalism.
Finrir’s murder put the group in alert; Vladis dispatched a second member of the group, Zigmas, to eliminate the problem by either bribing Hannibal or killing him. Hannibal killed Zigmas instead, drowning him in the river.
In the final confrontation, Vladis claimed that Hannibal too had consumed his sister in strings of meat fed to him by the rogues in order to keep him and the other captured kits alive, and it was to keep this fact secret that he was killing them. Enraged, Hannibal eviscerated him by repeatedly carving his sister's initial into his body.
It was after this when Hannibal fled the territory, heading west.
It was during this time when the tom was captured by a clan of cats who feared the tom was much more than a simple rogue. They held him captive within their camp for a total of four years, before he escaped from the imprisonment, killing his three guards during the ordeal.
After this he met up with Heartless, a rogue she-cat who shared the same passion for feline flesh as he did. They had together a litter of five kits, one Heartless devoured right after birth, another she killed and ate later.
Of the three remaining kits were the youngest, a gray and white tom with brown ears and crimson eyes they named Misery. The middle kit, a black and white tom they named Loveless, who was the spitting image of his father. And one she-kit.
A white female with one blue eye and one green one. The striking image, an exact duplicate, of the aunt she never knew.
Seeing this, Hannibal took his only surviving daughter, keeping her in total isolation during the next few moons, subjecting her to various conditioning techniques ("brainwashing"). His main goal was to systematically replace Chainless's memories and personality and make her believe she was Hannibal's deceased sister Heartfall.
However, Hannibal’s plan to brainwash Chainless ultimately failed, as he utterly underestimated her strong will; she refused to have her own personality sublimated, mocking his efforts to turn her into his sister.
She fled, leaving her entire family and world behind.
However, both Hannibal and Chainless are capable of murder at any time; in essence, whatever of Hannibal's conditioning took created a "counterpart" of himself in Chainless. She is just capable of far more control than he is – and had done well in suppressing that darker side.
Hannibal is still alive and at large.
Anything Else:
The father of Chainless and Loveless, and a third cat, a second son named Misery, with Heartless. I though it fitting to add the last two pieces to the family – after all, we have Blackheart who is the father to Umberpaw and Demonkit, who is, well, dead. Hence the decision to finally craft the tom that’s the sire of the Stoneclan duo – and hint at the mysterious youngest son of the Hannibal x Heartless union; who has remained unmentioned until now and will have a purpose in future role plays.
Can anyone guess the beloved cannibalistic serial killer who happens to feature in my most favorite movie that he is modeled after? ^^ T’isn’t a difficult guess.
