Icy blue eyes flashed open as a gray and white she-cat awoke from a strange dream. Her heart was racing, as if she thought her dreams were reality for a moment. The cat, Silentwhisper as she was called, glanced in slight fear at her sharp claws. They were still white, she realized with a sigh of relief. Her flanks were rising and falling a bit quicker then normal. "He's still dead, you idiot. Even in your dreams he's dead..." She muttered without emotion. Silentwhisper stood up slowly and stretched. Her quivered a bit as she yawned and flexed each toe in turn. 'It wasn't real.' Her shattered heart was beating normally now, slowly. The gray she-cat glanced around, everything was silent. But her loneliness was her own choice.
Silentwhisper closed her eyes and a muscular fawn tom's image appeared in her mind, causing her to flinch in pain. 'Why didn't you love me? If you did, maybe you'd still be alive....' She thought miserably, memories flooding into her head. Silentwhisper wished for a moment that another lonely cat, that shared her misery would come along. But, only a heart-beat after that she regretted ever caring. "Why the hell would I care?" She hissed scolding at herself. She loathed every moment she spent with any other cat, knowing they had all been killed in the end. In her mind, the only one that mattered in the world was her. But because she thought no one else cared about her, she figured someone had to. Secretly, she wanted to meet another cat so she could talk to someone besides herself.... Though, she'd probably end up hating them after a while. But, maybe a quiet, sad cat could be tolerated.
Silentwhisper shook her head and sighed. 'Why do people love, or even care about others? It may make them happy for a while, but it only ends in sadness. Anyone that loves someone must be an idiot. People need to use their brains sometimes.', She thought as the tom's image became stained with blood and scars. Her paws seemed to still be covered by his blood, but maybe it was just her imagination. The image of that tom, Kody, her first love, became imprinted in her mind. Though she tried not to think of him, her anger and hatred forever would remain as another terrible memory. And even if she forgot, it's not as if it had never happened. Even if her heart grew back, the pieces would fit together all crooked and part of her heart would still always belong to Kody. 'Silentwhisper, I can't fall in love with someone as strange as you....' The tom's words, though said gently, had shattered her heart into tiny pieces. Maybe someday it would be fixed, but Silentwhisper hoped not. Love, as she always told herself, caused only pain and sorrow. Caring only wastes time to think about youself.
Silentwhisper looked into the bright blue sky. The sun was shining, speckling her pelt with silver. The she-cat sighed and closed her eyes, a growl arose in her throat. She had always hated sunlight. It warmed her long fur and made her feel like she did when she was young. It made her heart ache and brought back terrible memories of when she was younger. Of when Kody and her father were still alive. 'Why?' Was the last thing she heard, said by a cat who she killed long ago. Then, she fell into a light sleep, one eye open to look out for anything that might be approaching.
