Azure slinked through the shadows of the trees, she scented the air carefully, the scent was nothing she had ever encountered before...She flicked her ears in discomfort and continued her walk. Six moons old, she wasn't much danger to cats that lived here, she was tired, maybe a little rest from all that walking would do her good. Scrambling onto a tree root, she lay there panting...Her ears caught the swish of leaves but she was too tired to care...she closed her eyes.

Flowers color her fur...
Leaf-bare was almost here, not it already was...just not here. The air was as clear and cold as it had ever been, but no snow had graced the banks of the stream yet. Not to Lillystar's dismay of course. She loved snow, but alas, her clan lived in a cave with water and rock everywhere. Snow only made things harder to keep warm.
As she patrolled the border along the stream, she noticed something curled at the base of a tree. Creeping closer, the indistinct shape became a young cat...she guessed 6 or 7 moons. Sitting down in front of the kit, Lillystar spoke softly to wake her.
"Young one, wake now, and tell me what you're doing out here," she said calmly.
...justice rules her mind.

Azure curled up tighter and squeezed her eyes shut, she was convinced the voice was part of a dream...Yet the voice had substance to it, hesitantly she opened one eye. Her eyes flew open and she jumped back, her paws tangled and she went sprawling. Feeling hot with embarrassment, Azure rightened herself into a sitting position and eyed the cat with curiosity.
Remembering the cat's earlier question she timidly answered "I-I was just...Well I was looking for a place to stay for the night, I've been walking awhile so I thought maybe some rest would be alright."
She lowered her head and pressed herself to the ground, she began to shiver, the cold was piercing through her pelt, she moved her tail closer to her side in an attempt to keep warm.

Lillystar looked down on the shivering kit, her heart melting with pity. Reaching down she pressed her nose into the youngster's fur, feeling her skin cold to the touch.
"You need to come into camp before you freeze...but I can't admit just anyone..." she said, worriedly. "Would you like to join my clan little one?" "You would have to train to be a warrior and you have to help hunt, but you would have friends and mentors, and a warm place to come home to."

Azure's eyes widened as what the she-cat said sunk in.
"You mean," she began "I can stay in a place wi th other cats so I won't be alone? I can hunt little mouse without red furry dogs trying to eat me? I can have a true home?"
Suddenly she was up and eager to go, anywhere. Her pelt was fluffed out, her tail waved in barely contained joy and her azure eyes had a new sparkle. Her body was shivering from the cold but she hardly noticed.

Lillystar was encouraged by the kit's enthusiasm. Maybe she would make a good warrior for them some day or maybe Umberwings would have an apprentice. MistClan was quite large already, but there was no reason to leave this kit to starve and freeze.
"Come with me," she said, then turned and began walking back toward the camp.

Azure bounced after the she-cat, her tail waved and she felt new energy spread through her weary limbs. She imagined the new life she would have, full of cats that would be her friends, full of places where she could hunt without being hunted. With one last flick of her tail she whispered goodbye to her lonely past.
