She stepped with a now conscious gracefulness. It had been natural before, now it was a focused effort. The fight had cut muscles, rearranged skin, and broken bones. Now the she-cat was all in one piece again, but her stealth suffered and her body twinged with still healing aches. Long scars crisscrossed over her left flank and across her chest. Miraculously, the demon tom had not marred her face beyond repair, but her fur would never grow back in some places. Even so, she had an apprentice to teach, and teach she would.
"Starpaw, come over here, I want to start teaching you how to hunt properly," she called firm, but never angrily.

There was no judgment in the happy little apprentice when she followed her scarred mentor, tail held high and proud. She had seen Shadowstreak since as long as she could remember back, and really didn’t know the cat to be any other way. She knew the warrior had been wounded in some battle, not the means or cause, but time had healed much of the damage done.
It didn’t matter, ‘cause she now had a mentor! “I’m coming I’m coming!” Realizing that she had actually fallen behind, especially because a small butterfly had fluttered its way across her path and just begged to be chased, Starpaw giggled and raced to catch up – only moments to halt her forward motion and bounce alongside Shadowstreak. “Are we gonna catch something biiiiiig?”

Shadowstreak smiled at her exuberant young apprentice. The youngster's enthusiasm lifted her spirits greatly, though it also reminded her of Icepaw and that hurt...
"I hope so...I'm so hungry I could eat a fox!" she said, smiling into the chilly wind. "Come along now, you silly little fluffy thing!" she teased, and ran on ahead, stirring up mounds of dry leaves. It was approaching leaf-bare in the forest, but the snows had not reached their camp. At least not yet.
Pelting along, Shadowstreak let her apprentice assume it was all in good fun, but that was not the only reason behind it. She wanted to see what kind of speed Starpaw possessed. For Shadowstreak stealth and speed were key to catching anything worth eating.

Firetheory gave a light smile as he saw his friend disappear into the Medicine Cat's den. It was no mystery as to what had happened, and frankly Firetheory was positively exhausted. Life had slowed down, but being friends with Rustshade certainly had it's consequences. Finally able to relax, he took a deep breath and turned away, gold-red eyes skimming over the Camp.
Nearby, he spotted Shadowstreak training with her apprentice. Recognition flickered in his mind. Yes, Shadowstreak was the she-cat whom he had helped in the Medicine Cat's den. It appeared she was doing far better, and he gave a good-natured smile. Good for her, then! Firetheory often kept to himself, and knew few cats by name. He glanced around before sighing in contentment, and he rose to his feet to approach, his fluffy tail drifting along the ground. He sat wordless to watch, tucking his paws and tail close into him to watch with curiosity, saying nothing and observing.

Bouncy bounce bouncy bounce bouncy bounce. Hey, what was that now omg it was the butterfly again and she just wanted to—
Err. Starpaw’s divided attention finally pulled back to Shadowstreak, aware that she was being spoken to and that she, probably, needed to listen instead of plot how to attack the butterfly. “But why would you wanna eat a fox? One came close to camp one, ‘member? It was stinky and gross and I was happy when Battledream went and chased it off!” But then…what was that?! “I’m not fluffy or silly or a thing! I’m Starpaw!” The apprentice howled and chased after her mentor, long gangly legs stretching out to their fullest as she tried her hardest to keep up. She was fast, not the fast at all however, and it was all too soon she started lagging behind and panting hard. No no, she had to keep up!
It was sheer stubbornness that didn’t let the young she-cat stop for a breather; doggedly she kept on trying to catch up to Shadowstreak. Then…another cat? “Hi hi hi~” She called as she took in a breath, waving her tail as she bolted for Shadowstreak again.

Shadowstreak's ears pricked at the sound of his familiar voice. Could it be...did he still have interest in her...maybe even worry about her............?
No.
She was dreaming again. That was what had happened before. Then both her beloved and her apprentice had been taken away. The tabby femme was happy for Rustshade...so happy...so happy that it hurt. Icepaw...the inquistive thing...she had better be doing well wherever she was... Such was the way of this cat. As long as everyone was happy, she would be happy to suffer. Poor, foolish Shadowstreak...she was sure it would be that way. Never to love or be loved, such a wonder of misery she was...
Enough of that now.
"Hello. Firetheory...good to see you again," she mewed, eyes guarded, leading her apprentice farther out of the camp. She wondered...would he choose to follow?

Firetheory quirked his head. Had he done something wrong? Why did she seem so defensive towards him? He shuffled his paws, vaguely aware that something was on Shadowstreaks' mind. It seemed something was always on her mind.
A sudden noise broke into this thought, and he traced the source to a very cheerful and bright-eyed apprentice. Starpaw, apparently. He gave a polite smile, unsure how to respond to such a cheerful greeting. He was spared the chance when she trotted away, and Shadowstreak gave her own taut greeting. He nodded his muzzle politely. To you too He said slightly awkwardly. He wasn't sure how to talk to Shadowstreak either, when she appeared to harbor mysterious beyond Firetheory's imagination. Something that dated back to before he even came to the clan, regarding a certain friend of his and an apprentice he'd never even heard of.
As she walked away, he silently padded away after her, tail flicking. He had never had an apprentice before his current, and not being raised around Clan customs, he could use the practice of watching and learning. Plus, perhaps he could figure out what darkened Shadowstreak's mind.

His reply was equally brief, yet he followed. What should she think...do...say? The she-cat had been hurt so much, and there wasn't much room left to accomodate love this time. Maybe she could give it a try, but if this attempt failed...that was it.
"Sorry, we're in a hurry Firetheory!" she called over her shoulder, awkwardly apologizing for her curt speech before. "We've got to get out there soon before the prey all takes shelter in their dens, away from the cold!"
Kicking her back legs hard, she powered on forward, challenging herself. This body would bend to her will again, no matter how much it ached.

Firetheory's ears tilted backwards a bit, deciding whether or not she was in a polite mood towards him. Regardless, he gave a small smile and nodded his head. No worries, Miss Shadowstreak He mumbled respectfully. He was a tom of few words, quiet and adorably unassuming. His emotions rarely fell out the bucket, as it usually ranged in neutral attitudes. If and when the poor Tom found love, it would come at him like a truck. He wouldn't even see it coming.
Where Shadowstreak bolted ahead, testing out her wills and strength, he kept up easily with Starpaw, assuming she had followed her mentor. He didn't have to bend his physical strength, so he contented himself with an easy lope, ears leaning back and tail flicking with every back step.
As soon as they emerged from the Camp, the cold mist stung as the wind welcomed him like a puppy. He gave a smile, and he bounded forward slightly, ravishing in the weather. He loved the wind, it powered the fire. It powered his energy, and like fire, it made him feel more alive as his power exploded from him, ready to burst. It was the only time his emotions took a sharp leap upwards the scale.
