Starline looked about, scaning the clearing as he thought about his brother. His eyes stopped at the fading sunset light. There was a figure in the distance, a familar one at that. Starline opened his jaws and scented the clearing. Yes, it is him, Starline thought. He paused before dashing ahead to greet his long-lost brother. " Shadowpaw! Shadowpaw!" he screamed, but his voice died away as he realized that figure faded with every step he took. " No.. not now", he whispered,looking up at StarClan. The moon! He quickly turned to the moon. It's silvery light was bright, but when his eyes ajusted, Starline realized that it was half-moon. He hung his head and buried himself in lost memories.

Darkslash heard the desperate cries. He stalked stealthily in the direction they were coming from; he moved downwind. Then, Darkslash saw the source of the pathetic yowls. The old mottled cat sat with his head bowed in despair. Complete, utter despair. Darkslash knew how it felt. He almost sympathized with the old geezer. He went up to him and sat, looking into the darkening sky.

Starline scented the air and scented another cat. He whipped his head aroud and saw a young tortiseshell sitting next to him. "What do you want???" He hissed to this cat. It was somehow startled by him. He flicked his tail. "Well? Got anything to say, young feller?" He rasped, softening his yellow eyes. < Maybe if I'm nice, he'll be my friend> Starline thought,<My first friend since Shadowpaw.>

Darkslash was a little rattled by the sudden changes in the old one's moods. "What do I want?" Darkslash repeated. He pondered this for a while. For starters he wanted a companion, a Nintendo DS, a Wii and a Plasma Flatscreen and a few electrical outlets. An iPod would be nice too. " I want a friend,"

Starline watched the cat say those words. He felt the same way." Ah, so do I, yet I still have no one," He mewed. He turned to the cat. He shut his eyes very tightly and then opened them again. <What else do I want? A Nintendo Ds, a Wii, a Plasma Screen, and some electircal outlets. An Ipod would be nice to.> Starline squinted. He reappeared back in the real world to see the cat's face. " What's your name, Feller?" He asked.

His name? Why would he care, the grumpy old fart! Fine. "Darkslash," he muttered. He growled softly. Irritation, a beautiful emotion, destructive as well. He liked it.

Dark black fur, black claws, white muzzle, green eyes?" <It's worth a try,> he thought, but a tiny voice nagged at his hope yelling,<What do you mean? Hope? Hope's been long gone, and so is Shadowpaw!>
