The tabby warrior kept on running until they reached the field, pushing her legs on. Her chestnut fur glimmered in the harsh leaf-bare light and her breath came out in quick little bursts, creating vapor clouds around her muzzle. The black stripes along her spine and the cool gray undertones of her pelt absorbed the sunlight, keeping her warm in the bitter chill. Settling down after her run, she paced in tight circles, her mouth hanging open to scent for prey.
"Starpaw, tell me what you smell," she said to her apprentice, forcing herself to give the snowy youngster her full attention. Although she couldn't help but glance at Firetheory every few moments, curious why he had decided to join them instead of some other hunting party.

As they burst into the small clearing in the field outside the Camp, Firetheory slunk up to a small rock, keeping out of the way of Mentor and apprentice. The truth was that he had come out to study mentoring skills. He had recently been assigned an apprentice, but Clan-life was still a foreign concept to him, still learning the ropes to it.
Still, he didn't want to let down the Leader. And Shadowstreak was a friend of his, wasn't she? Firetheory had helped her recover when he first came to the Clan, when she was helping to save her friends kit from another Clan. The thought still bemused him. It was such a selfless act.
As she spoke to her apprentice, he quirked his head to the side, almost focusing as much as an apprentice himself. It was a good time to learn, afterall, HOW to teach what he knew. He gave a shy smile as she caught her eye on one of the moments she turned her head slightly to glance at him, ears flicking in curiosity.

“Wait for meeeeeeee!”
Starpaw yelled at the top of her lungs, probably scaring away all the prey…there was just no stopped the rambunctious feline, before charging the rest of the way and catching up with Shadowstreak. “S’is Mister Firetheory gonna come hunting with us too the entiiiire time?” Shadowstreak seemed to be scenting for prey or something of that sort, and generally was being boring to a young cat whose mind was way way too active.
She merely shrugged, gave it up for a good try, and bounced happily around Shadowstreak with boundless energy and enthusiasm and…omg! Was that another butterfly?
“Buuuutterfly, come back!” The apprentice charged off from her mentor’s side, completely forgetting about the both of them, sights set only on the flapping yellow wings of one of the last few insects in this late season.

Shadowstreak was ready to bat her apprentice around the ears. Silly fluffy thing, so soft to the world...so naive. Then again, what else could kits be?
"Starpaw, you're learning how to hunt birds and rodents, not BUTTERFLIES!" she called, rather hopelessly after her pupil.
It seemed quite clear that, at least for now there would be no hunting. Sighing heavily, she turned back to Firetheory, studying him with her dark blue eyes. Making a bold move, she walked over and sat down next to him, wondering if perhaps they could rekindle that old feeling there had been in the medicine cat den. Back when she was in constant pain, and only his voice could soothe it.
"So, how do you like living in MistClan?" she asked, feeling immediately the generic quality of the question. "I...I mean...have you made good friends...is the den nice...?" Somehow, talking to Firetheory made her seem like a shy apprentice with a crush. Oh, but it was so much deeper than that...

Firetheory couldn't help but chuckle at the young apprentice's enthusiasm. So light-hearted, and so playful. Firetheory held no remorse nor envy for her; he lived a simple life, and not one blemished by dark pasts.
No, he just enjoyed watching her playful antics. He smiled at Shadowstreak's hopelessness at trying to make the young she-cat try and pay attention this lesson. He was even pleasantly surprised to find she had given up for the moment and took her seat next to him. He flicked his tail in lazy greeting.
She sure seemed to stumble over her words, though! Firetheory gave her a kind smile, quirking his head to the side. She adored him so much, and the poor boy didn't even see it coming. Blissfully unaware as he was, he enjoyed her company, even to the point of her being his friend. Afterall, he had simply cared for her for a small while, and she had taken a liking into him, and him to her. He liked her; he just didn't realize it yet.
Oh, yes, MistClan is nice! It's a pleasant place to- But he was cut short as she jumped right to the next question with harried speed, and he smiled. No, not many friends. I don't know many besides you and Rustshade, and he's occupied at the moment He replied easily, unaware that he might have hit a rough spot for her. And yes, the den is nice He added with a laugh, flicking his tail.

Shadowstreak's ears burned with embarassment. Why did she find it so hard to talk to Firetheory? She had loved Rustshade too, but it had never been this impossible to form sentences... She felt so...weird. Maybe this was how it was supposed to be, maybe her feelings for Rustshade had been less intense than she thought. The she-cat wasn't sure.
"Sorry...I'm sort of uncomfortable around you..." she mumbled, then immediately felt her face flush when it came to her how terrible that sounded. "Oh, but not in a bad way...I just...like you a lot...Firetheory."
Her ears swiveled toward him to hear his response, even though she felt incredibly sheepish.

Firetheory allowed the quiet to surround them, now that Starpaw appeared to have fallen silent. His ears leaned back easily as he closed his eyes, old habits letting him drift into listening to the wind. He welcomed the noise, the sound of it's voice, telling him stories. A content grin crossed his muzzle.
Then she spoke, and his ears twitched, bringing him back down to the present, and he glanced over at her easily. He gave a sad smile, , giving her an apologetic shrug of his thick shoulders. My apologies for making you uncomfortable, then He rumbled, then paused.
His ears flicked up in a sudden movement, and his eyes widened slightly as he was taken by surprise. She.. liked.. him? What was to like about him? He was a gentle tom, a little simple in the lifestyle, and odd in the sense that he listened to the wind. Nothing out of the ordinary. But he smiled kindly. I... Well, I like you too, Shadowstreak He said, giving her a small lopsided grin. It was true. He had known he had forged a small bond with the broken she-cat when he helped take care of her, and enjoyed her company. Could he like her more than that? Though he wanted to deny it, not because it was a bad idea, but because he thought so little of himself, he also knew there was a small part in him that was curious of her too.
It's very sudden, though. I didn't have a clue He said truthfully, then paused, looking down with a troubled expression. Was it sudden? He racked his brain, suddenly picking up the small hints and gestures to put it together. Wow, he appeared to miss a lot of roadsigns when he lived in his own little world.

Shadowstreak was curious of his feelings, especially as he seemed to be reconsidering them himself, but she was also afraid. What if this didn't work out? Her heart hurt too much to go through more pain...would this be another claw to her chest?
"You understand, right?" she queried, nervously. "I really like you....as more than a friend."
She swished her tail back and forth in mild agitation. What should she say now?
"As in...I'd like to try this...oh what do they call it...courting...thing?" she mewed. "If you feel the same...that is..."

Firetheory listened to her words with half a mind, while the other half was busied working on overtime [he took so life so easily, it rarely ever required a long thought-process to make up his mind] trying to think of where he could have missed the signs.
After a couple of moments, he shook his head, following his train of thought back to what she said, then looked over at her carefully. He'd never courted another female before. Afterall, he'd figured before that no she-cat would want anything to do with simple ol' Firetheory. He was never an outstanding warrior, and he was only good enough to get by with his hunting and fighting skills. But, nobody could deny he wasn't loyal.
But, he smiled, even if a bit awkwardly at the idea; but it was a true smile. Courting... Courting?
Yes, I suppose we can give that a try He said with a light chuckle, flicking his tail satisfactorialy.

Shadowstreak wanted to nuzzle him hard enough to knock him over, to press her face into his thick fur and stay there forever, but she contained herself. Dark blue eyes dancing with happiness, she pressed close to his side and purred. Her tail laced across his back, teasing him ever-so-slightly.
"That would make me very happy...thank you," she said. OOC: Short post is short...XD
