It had all happened so fast.
Too fast.
The mini battle, that is.
Before the petite medicine cat apprentice could blink, her close friend and clanmate, Blindsong, lay writhing in agony, and then in death.
The beautiful queen who had befriended Jadepaw as a kit, and had been almost like a mother to the whole clan. And in a blink, she was cut down.
Jadepaw felt to helpless as she watched Snowstar close Blindsong's eyes for the last time and then lift her onto her back.
The white and grey apprentice walked numbly next to her leader for a moment, burying her nose into the soft pelt of her fallen comrade for but a moment.
There would be more time for mourning when they got back to camp.
The normally bouncy and bright young she-cat, just trotted along a taillength to the side of Snowstar, looking up at her with wide, grief-filled eyes.
