me.| A slim, ruddy-coloured cat padded softly through the tall grasses of the Rogue Meadow. Her black-tipped tail flicked pleasantly. Her rust-coloured paws made a silent sound on the weeds, pebbles, and plants galore, a soft yet raspy purr came from deep in her throat. Her claws sheathed and unsheathed as they touched the soft earth, pink pawpads growing rougher over time. Project 1. 1.1. Shadow. Her leisurely walk grew into a brisk trot. Shadow forgot all about her manipulative behaviour, and instead of fretting about any evil cats wandering to her side and figuring out her 'secret', she found a small boulder and leaped to the top. She curled her tail over her nose and fell instantly into a light slumber. |.you want to get to know me ?.|

Yellow eyes watched the new female from some bushes, well concealed and silent. The tom hiding in the bushes barely even breathed, he was so silent. He'd learned. Oh yes, he'd learned.
Be silent. Don't move. Watch.
If she'd been prey, the cat probably would already have been lunch. But cats weren't prey. Well, they weren't Checkmate's prey, anyway. He stood cautiously, never taking an eye off the female.
One step. He paused. Was she asleep? Out in the open on a rock?
Another step. Still no movement. Checkmate stretched his neck forward to sniff the air. There weren't any other cats around, just her. He relaxed a bit- a single other cat didn't worry him, especially when she was sleeping. He moved quietly and gracefully to sit in front of her rock, but didn't try to awaken her. He sat primly and just stared at her, perfectly willing to wait. In truth, it had been a long time since he'd really spoken to another cat- the old gang from the town was long gone, probably coyote bait just as Checkmate had nearly been. He bent to sniff a leaf that was at his feet, pressing it against the ground with his nose. This was the smell of home now. He liked it- he was learning to like it.
Eyes returned quickly to the sleeping cat up on the rock- was she just playing at being asleep? Or was she really out and still hadn't realized he was there?

me.| Rustle, rustle. A leaf on the ground at Shadow's rock's visible bottom was moving. Another cat was nudging it. He seemed wary. Of what? Project 1 wouldn't hurt another cat in her...position. Her yellow-green hues flicked open. Did he notice? Shadow leaped off of the small boulder. Hues grew wide with curiosity... And then narrowed with the wariness this tom felt. Cautious. But not fearful. Was it a skill to become another cat? Was it a blessing to be so adaptable? Or was it a curse to have no personality of her own? |.you want to get to know me ?.|

The black spotted tom stepped back as the she-cat jumped off the boulder in front of him. His expression mimicked her's perfectly- or maybe she mimicked him. Who could tell?
"I'm not sure I'd fall asleep out in the open, what with Boneclanners and all running about," he said finally, after waiting a moment to see if she was going to say anything, or perhaps run him off. When it appeared she had no such idea in mind, he grinned slightly, and sat again. Of his limited experience with cats- those from his neighborhood- they'd all been much less cautious than he. But it appeared this she-cat was just as cautious of him as he was of her. It struck Checkmate as slightly odd, but he assumed this was once again due to a lack of knowing more than about 10 other cats in his life...

me.| I'm not sure I'd fall asleep out in the open, what with BoneClanners and all running about...BoneClanners? What was a BoneClanner? She grinned, mimmicking his expression exactly. She sat. Shadow was acting just like the new tom; she was becoming him. Her paws kneaded the ground once; twice; three times. Her yellow-green eyes grew less wary, but she still felt his cautiousness. "I am 1.1; Project 1; Figure B..."She couldn't find her name. "...Shadow."|.you want to get to know me ?.|

How very odd. Was this new cat being funny, mimicking, or was she doing it without thinking? Checkmate tilted his head to the side. He was almost amused, thinking of making a funny face just to see if she'd copy it. But that would not be very nice, and he'd probably look stupid anyway. Checkmate didn't like looking stupid.
"I'm Checkmate. 'Fraid I haven't any other alternatives. What happened to Figure A? Or did someone just skip a letter?" he asked innocently. If this she-cat was going to be mimicking him, even down to how he was sitting, he decided maybe he should give over this sitting up like a porcelain cat nonsense. It could give you a real backache if you weren't in the habit of sitting up that way. He was used to it- but he didn't think maybe this female was.
Nor did he think it would be a good plan to leave her out her utterly alone. He was paranoid, yes, about the Boneclan cats. /He/ wouldn't have wanted to meet them if he was alone. It was why he'd been so wary of approaching this new cat- he was worried about traps.

me.| "Figure A?"Figure A, Figure A... 1.2. Of course! Project 1 smiled weakly, still keeping her - or Checkmate's - wary disposition. Figure A was her...her sister...and Shadow had no idea where she was. What a sibling, eh? "No, no one skipped a letter."She didn't go on to explain her, ah, situation. Meeting Checkmate had turned her into the wary she-cat she was now. Shadow wasn't herself. She never was. Never her own personality. |.you want to get to know me ?.|

Checkmate didn't bother the she-cat to elaborate on Figure A. He probably wouldn't have told anyone any of his history, either- in fact, he hadn't.
Except now he didn't know what to talk about. So his social skills had suffered... so? His tail tapped the ground for a moment, as he tried to think of something to talk about.
"I'm afraid I'm not as good at conversing as I used to be," he sighed, finally. There was a touch of humor in what he said, almost as if he found how he'd managed to change amusing. Funny, that he who hated change had changed anyway, almost without noticing.

me.| Figure B let out a weak, nervous mrrrow of laughter, sitting by the rock she had been dozing on. Her tail twitched and rattled. "Nor am I."Was that completely true? Well, Shadow wasn't generally a 'talker'; more of a listener, an observer. She felt awkward around other cats; she had nothing around them. She had her pretty green eyes, and slim body, but that wasn't the lost personality. Without other cats, of course, she could be downright obnoxious - she could be anything. But no other cat got to see that. No other cat got to see the real her. |.you want to get to know me ?.|

"Quit babbling 'bout random babble, she. We don't get your 'figure A' talk!" Hissed an irritable shabby calico cat, emerging from the brush and leaping on a fallen log beside the rock. "Felony's th' name." He said to any and all eyes watching him, glaring about him. "'n you woke me from a good sleep." He growled yet more, but streched forward, back arching and legs tense as he clawed at the log.
"Who be you two, wandr'in 'round Rogue Meadows? 's dang'rous 'round here, what with th' war 'bout to start." He said rather cheerfully, even for an irritable tempered cat.
Felony wasn't 'evil' per say, but he certainly was snappy and cold. A little good impression certainly worked wonders for the tom.

The tom nearly jumped out of his skin when Felony showed up. Checkmate hadn't even scented the other tom.
What was with that? He seldom forgot to pay attention to his surroundings.
He watched the other tom, just waiting to see whether he'd chase them off or not. When no such thing occurred, he was left a little confused.
Our apologies... we didn't know you were sleeping here. So there's to be war? That... I hadn't heard.
Checkmate was as courteous as ever. His eyes flicked to the she-cat. Her reactions thus far had been interesting, though not unusual. Checkmate watched for a moment, hoping to figure this cat out by how she reacted to Felony.
As for Felony... well, Checkmate figured he was allowed to be cranky- they had awakened him after all. And he hadn't chased them off. That counted for something, surely.

me.| Shadow whipped around. Another cat? This one was acting quite differently from Checkmate; her mind told her to act like this one, but the other one, too. How could she be two opposites at once? "Sorry."It wasn't quite a nice 'sorry'; it was a snappy 'sorry'. Just like Felony, she grew irritable. But then she turned back to Checkmate and dipped her head. "Neither had I."Her tail flicked in the courteousness that Checkmate was speaking with, then in the irritableness that Felony was. |.you want to get to know me ?.|

He swished his tail very slightly down at his back paws. What was going on here? This strangeness... was seeming normal now. What an odd thought, that you could predict one's behavior only by stating that it would be somewhat unpredictable. He tilted his head to the side and narrowed his eyes in thought at her.
