The female crow cawed in bliss, she would get to stuff herself! Briefly forgetting the fact that she hated his she-cat, she hopped around and fluttered her wings.
"'Hank 'ou 'itty!"
Well, Grit was very lucky for a crow, in terms of being protected by a very handsome tom, and getting to eat fresh food, instead of garbage and rotting muck.
And, not being as polite as Rift, she promply dug into her mouse, before reciving a warning glance from the tom, then the black bird returned her gaze to the she-cat, and remembering-- She still needed to live up to the crow name, and be unlucky for this kitty.
Rift purred, having caught enough to feed the female and her tiny mouths, as well as leftovers for him and Grit. He turned now to Grit, seeing her staring at the she-cat, but not the hatred in her eyes.
"Come closer Grit, let us all eat together.
" As the crow reluctently, which Rift barely noticed, pulled the mouse over to them, he gave her the signal that she could eat, and with a caw of glee, she dug in as Rift patiently waited his turn to take a bite. His eyes danced with amusement upon watching his friend fall over in trying to tug out a chunk, and hurriedly got back up.

A mrrow of laughter escaped from the tortoiseshell she-cat, and she clawed her bed of moss closer to the handsome tom and the...pleasant...she-crow. Silverglass and Catnipwhisker were playing weakly and mewling loudly. If only they had a real father; one that would take care of them when Wardreamshadow wanted to just get away. But alas, they did not, seeing as their heartless -ooc: haha, Heartless xD- rogue daddy hated their tiny little entrails.
Wardreamshadow gazed confusedly at Grit. From the start, the tortoiseshell queen and big, black bird basically...hated each other. Why? Why did it have to be like that?
Why couldn't that stupid bird realize that a handsome tom like Prince would not even try to be with a crow?
Sure, they had been travelling together and hunting together, getting each other out of that place in between a rock and a hard place, but still...it seemed that Prince, as Wardreamshadow now referred to him as, viewed the relationship as only friends, but Grit...she saw it totally different. Wardreamshadow switched her yellow gaze back to Prince.
"Again, thank you for catching all this prey. And you, Grit," the tortie queen politely added to the crow, "seem to be a wonderful prey-catcher. Most birds I've ea - er, watched, haven't been about to catch a slow, fat squirrel. Good job."
She wasn't trying to really patch things up with the little black fae-crow, she just wanted it to look that way, had Prince ever even noticed the small feuds.

The brown tom nodded with a smile at the females laugher, before dipping his head to the mouse to politely eat the last few bites, missing her confused gaze at the crow.
Grit glared at the cat, and gave her beak a silent snap, showing her quite well that the crow didn't appreciate the she-cat moving in on herkitty.
Though she accepted the praise, Grit still hated the cat with all her feathery being. So unless she backed down and gave her a good apology, the black bird would hate her down to the very pits of Hell.

Wardreamshadow's mouth dropped open. Oh, no she didn't! Pah. Didn't matter. While the handsome tom had bent down, she sneered silently at Grit. Then she smiled coldly but sweetly and went back to snarfin' up her hawk - which Prince had caught, not Grit.
"So...how long have you two been travelling together?" the tortie queen asked awkwardly.

"Interestingly curious question. Grit and I have been travelling together for a little under thirty-six moons. Praise Starclan.
" He was curious about why she asked that, and why he found akwardness in her voice, but Rift wasn't one to pry. Instead, he simply sat up and twisted his head to clean the wound the hawk had inflicked, tongue going to a steady pace, the very beat of his heart. Ooc: Blame 'The Sacred Wind' for that last line XD -shakes fist-

Wardreamshadow felt pity for the poor boy. The hawk had hurt him? How horrible! And what had Grit done while all of this happened? Had she just been off catching her measly little mouse?
"How bad is that wound?" the tortie queen asked worriedly. She didn't even glance at the crow, in fear of her glaring back with black beady eyes.

"It is not as bad as it looks,"
He murmured between licks, before finishing the cleaning and bowing to the ground.
"Though I cannot lie, m'lady, it is just as painful as it appears. The wound may not be bad, yet pain is all the same."
Lifting his brown furred head, he looked at her with an even gaze, no hint of pain in this kitties eyes.
"However, I ask that you do not worry. It troubles me to make one worry for my being, when you are more important.... And the priority is that you and your new family remain safe and healthy until these kits are ready."
Ready for what? He didn't say. If he said when he was leaving, she might try to stop him. Though he didn't wish to upset her, he didn't belong here with this feline, for the heart that beat deep down, it belonged not to him, but to everyone.... It couldn't be contained or caged.
No one could hold him down.

Until the kits are ready...
Ready for him to leave. Ready for him to just walk away, and be with his precious crow. She watched to beady-eyed bird from hell with a suspicious eye herself, and grunted.
"Of course. When the kits are ready, you'll leave. Am I mistaken?"
She turned to Grit, her eyes full of hatred once more, and mouthed these words: You have no chance. Prince obviously didn't realise that the bird loved him, and he obviously didn't want any relationship.
Turning back to her kits, Wardreamshadow licked Catnipwhisker's head fiercely, until he cried out helplessly.

He simply blinked slowly. What else could he do? Say he'd stay? That would be a lie. He was a wander, that was a fact. Her words stung him, however, Rift didn't want to make the she-cat unhappy... But he didn't have a choice, it seemed.
But his brow furrowed when he saw the hatred in her eyes as she stared at his companion.
The ebony feathers stuck up as the crow became very pissed off indeed. How DARE she! Girt fancyed the idea of pulling the 'pretty she-cat's' eyes out of her skull. With this idea in her head, the feathered creature hopped foreward, hellfire burning in her beaty black orbs.
Ohhhh boy. They were fighting? Tsskk... That was bad. How long? And what about? He shook his head, and promply placed a paw on Grit, and pressed down, pinning her to the earth with a surprised caw. Now he shifted his eyes to the she-cat, who was licking her kit now in such a fashion it seemed to cause the little scrap of life pain.
"I ask the both of you to stop. Stop your fighting. I do not know what it is about, but this is my request.
" He might have commented about the kit.. But it was the queen's choice to do that; and he didn't want to command anything from the both of them any more than he needed to.

Wardreamshadow glanced up at Rift - she called him Prince, of course - worriedly, then at Grit. Back to Rift.
"I'm sorry," she meowed, then looked at Grit. Would she apologize too? She hoped so...but then she got a strange feeling, like cats were watching them.

As a matter of fact, they were watched. Drawn by the scent of blood, two pairs of eyes watched them from the foliage.
"Need any 'elp dere?"
The raspy voice belonged to a she-cat. Broke stepped from the shadows, her head tilted, midnight-blue eyes cool. No hostility, only polite curiosity. Her tail swung slowly behind her; it was heavily kinked, and it had obviously been broken more than once. Scars marked the cat's shaggy gray coat, relics of past battles. One ear stood up in tatters. On one paw, the pawpads were burnt black. She was not an old cat, but she had seen more action than most.
"I think they have it covered," the smaller being beside her said dryly. She was a fox, a fennec fox. She had large ears and short, sandy-colored fur and a small, neat head. Her shadowed, slanted amber eyes glittered with sharp intellect. She spoke Cat remarkable well, with barely a trace of foxlike accent. Her kind of fox was rare, if not unheard of here, but her proportions marked her as a fox. A small one, but inmistakably a fox.
"Now now now, Afia," Broke mewed to the fox, shaking her tail at the fox in mock-dissaproval, her eyes amused, "It is always polite to ask."
Afia rolled her eyes and nipped Broke's tail, which the cat swiftly retrated.

A shadowed tabby figure trotted up to Broke's side, his yellow-green eyes glowing. His forepaws stopped, aligned with hers. He sat, his tail swaying. Slower and slower till it stopped. A smile spread across his face as he glanced from Broke, to Afia, to Tahira, then to his own two forepaws.
"Yes, Afia," Sage meowed, amused. "You needa be polite to make any friends 'round here." The tom stepped ahead, out of the shadowed area. He glanced around at them, his eyes resting on Tahira for a few moments, then half-circled Broke and sat on her other side.
Tahira, had she been a cat, would have purred. Sage was good to her; the smaller figure stayed on Broke's right side instead of switching with her companion.
"These silly cats, eh, Afia?" the Fennec laughed. She sat beside the other fox, her poofy tail curved neatly around her paws.

What was that awful noise coming from far away? It sounded like....cawing? Over the rise, two jet black sillouettes could be seen, a cat was slinking along, a crow moving in a lurching hopping motion, walking alongside the small figure. The cat was making raucious noises that were strikingly similar to an actual crows cawing, his companion listening intently. The cat; Moshe. His feathered companion? Keeh. Moshe had just noticed a small gathering of cats ahead and his eyes widened, CAW! cuh CA-AWW! It could only be descriped as a screeching of suprise and fright. As the cat sounded the sharp call of alarm, Keeh startled and flew into the air in a flurry of loose feathers, but landed abruptly after. Apparently the avian didn't feel the same fear of the cats.... Moshe on the other hand, began cawing fiercely, fluffing up his fur in aggression. Almost ironically, he then hid himself behind his crow 'brother'.

Wardreamshadow's gaze flicked from 'Prince', to the new she-cat, to the new tom, then two the new....foxes?! Since when did cats travel with foxes? She'd heard of cats travelling with crows, but...
...Speaking of crows...
A sudden cawing frightened the torbie, and her neck fur bristled and poofed so that she looked almost three times her normal size. Catnipwhisker squealed in surprise and alarm while Silverglass puffed up like her mother's.

After he heard Grit give a half-hearted apology, which was better than nothing, he let her up, and watched as the crow preened herself of dust and dirt.
But then his ears perked up and he twisted around.
Well, Rift knew very well it was rude to stare... But he kind of couldn't help it. They had caught him by surprise. But then he quickly blinked, and bowed.
It was the least he could do.
After she had cleaned her feathers, Grit just stared rather unimpressed at the incoming cats, and hopped over to Rift's side.
But then what was that? .... A caw? Another crow? Better return the cry.
"CAW! CAW CAW!"

"Indeed," Afia replied, humor in her dark eyes. "So fickle."
Broke chuckled appreciatively, her eyes flitting from member to member of their party. Then she stepped forward and returned the tom's bow, rather amused by the formality. "'Ello dere," she purred. "I'm Broke, and dis 'ere is Afia, Sage, and Tahira." She pointed to each in turn.
Afia inclined her head. "Pleasure to meet you, cats," she barked softly, rather carelessly. She was in a fine mood.
Broke wheeled to face the horizon. "But dat-- I don' know who dat is." Her midnight blue eyes turned to land upon the unfamilliar newcomers. "You dere-- who are you?" Her voice was friendly.

Sage bowed to Rift and Wardreamshadow with a purr.
"Pleased to make your acquantance," he meowed.
"Fickle indeed!" Tahira laughed. "But what is that wretched cawing?" She turned to see a black cat with a crow. The cat, instead of the bird, was doing the cawing!
Sage turned to the black cat and the crow - the male crow, that is, seeing as Grit was also a crow. He let out a mrrow of laughter, thinking it was a joke.

At the sound of a return caw, Moshe lifted his head up, his scraggly fur began to lie flat, his eyes became wide and excited. Keeh seemed to have the same reaction, beginning to flutter his wings at his sides in anxiousness. Moshe let out another raucious caw in greeting, Keeh joining along this time, CAW! CAW caw ceh CA-uh-CAW! Moshe had a tough time understanding the other cats' language, but something from far back in the archives of his memory sparked. He called out in cat, his crow accent heavy, Moshe an' Keeh! Those were his single words, hopefully they would understand that he was identifying themselves.
