Bird! Birdbirdbirdbirdbirdbirdbird! “I’ma gonna getcha!” What was the sad thing was that the robin wasn’t in the least bit scared of the small orange she-cat that was creeping noisily through the undergrowth type stuff that dotted the expansive area the clan kitties labeled the ‘Rogue Meadow’. Gawsh, rogue meadow indeed, Ninjaheart hadn’t seen another cat since she stepped paw into it. Except for Silentmaw, but he was a different story since she was all stalky of him and he couldn’t escape her. Muahahahahaha! Oh. Wait. Wasn’t she stalking a bird? Looking up, yellow eyes fell on the location where the robin had been just moments before, but the bird had been smart and flown away. Darn. There went breakfast. Swishing her tail in mock irritation the small she-cat sat down, grooming her paw with an air of ‘hey, I don’t care, that was meant to happen.’ Afterwards her head swiveled around and she called, “Silentmaw I knnnow you're there! C’mon, stop being an emo lunkhead and get on out here and help me hunt for breakfast before I do it all myself and don’t share with you!”

Even with him being so quiet, she was still able to manage to find him while being a few days trek ahead of her. Silentmaw came out of hiding and sat down a fox length away from her. "With all the racket you make, I would catch more than you, but somehow you can't seem to stalk a prey silently."
The fact that he hadn't gone off to catch any yet was that he had decided to see how well she would do. Unfortunately, things don't change much with her. Always using heavy paw steps and mewing to herself and the prey.

Oooooo, sometimes Ninjaheart just wanted to rip Silentmaw’s tail off and shove it down his throat! His emoness was a constant bother for the young she-cat, and she bounded over to swat at his nose in a playful gesture. “Hah! I can hunt better then you think! Just watch!” Her eyes lifted, looking around. Just at that moment there was a bird flying low overhead, and with a bright grin the she-cat leaped, using Silentmaw’s head as a spring board to further the distance of her leap. Poor birdie didn’t stand a chance; the orange cat snatched it right out of the air, her teeth finishing it off quickly as she fell back to earth and easily landed on her paws. Proudly she dropped the kill at his paws and smirked, “See? Told ya! Just cause I like to chatter and all doesn’t mean I can’t hunt! Heeheh, my Madly Awesome Ninja Skillz totally pwn yours! There you are anyway, breakfast for you!” With a wild flick of her tail she meowed cheerfully and turned to scout the area for something for her to eat. Honestly, if he thought he could get away from her the tom had lost it. When Ninjaheart had her sight sets on something, or someone, she didn’t stop until she had it. Probably was what made her such an efficient thief.

Ears flicked forward as the slim, wary tom heard other cats' voices. He shrunk down in the leaves, not because he was exactly scared- but he'd rather listen for a moment more than give away his presence just yet.
A talkative she-cat and another tom, it appeared, and they sounded like newcomers. The bengal ghost crept forward, towards them. He was as quiet as the she-cat was loud. When he was closer, he stood to full height- not tall, he'd grant- and cleared his throat awkwardly. Just then, the she-cat bounded into the air and caught a bird. Checkmate's jaw opened a little in surprise. He'd never seen anyone do that.
"Excuse me but... where did you learn that?" he asked, head tilted like a bird. One ear tilted to the side, making him look even more confused for a moment. No "Hello, how are you," or introductions, he just began with a simple question. And stood like he was ready to run at a moment's notice. Ah yes, the socially awkward Checkmate.

Silentmaw just stood there when she mentioned hunting better than he thought. How long has she been a pest to him? And in that time, how long has he known her hunting skills? Some things never changed. Except he wasn’t expecting her to use his head like a stepping stone. The normally quiet tom let out a yowl of surprise at her stunt. His ears flickered in annoyance. But she had caught the bird nonetheless. As long as she didn’t cause his scarf to fall off, he wasn’t going to bop her on the head for her ignorant move. “I’d rather catch my own food,” he meowed while pawing at the fresh kill like it was poisoned. He was very well capable of feeding himself and she did not need to help. Yellow-green hues moved to see the silent moving tom seeming appear out of thin air when he talked. Of course he had been thrilled to see Ninjaheart’s jump off of his head to catch the bird.

Oh yes, Ninjaheart totally pwned him and she knew it. Twitch. “Oh just take it you emo idiot. There’s too little prey to pass up a free meal, and I’m not gonna eat that bird. I caught it for you!” Stubborn, wasn’t she? The orange she-cat leaped and whirled to face the newcomer, her happy chattering continuing on, “Oh, you saw my awesome move?! Hehehe, I totally showed that lunkhead didn’t I? I learned it back home in Wutaiclan; it’s far far FAAAAAAAAAAR away from here and I’ve been following Silentmaw for a while now and omgwhat’syournameI’mNinjaheartissagoodtomeet’cha!” Silentmaw, there’s your cue to shut her up. Hheeheh. Anyway. Bounding forward, Ninjaheart made as if to butt heads in a silly gesture with the other tom, a pure hearted and rather eccentric form of greeting on the she-cat’s part, but before she could see the tom’s reaction to that movement she was off jumping like a jack rabbit into the underbrush. Only a moment passed before she reappeared with a mouse, which she dropped at the tom’s paws before bounding back over to Silentmaw. “Breakfast for both of you! Now Ninjaheart needs to go finds her own brekkers! Heheehhe!” She pawed at Silentmaw’s scarf, careful not to dislodge it but unable to hide her interest in the frayed ends.

He started as the she-cat charged at him, standing back to avoid her, on his front tiptoes and back on his haunches. But she didn't do anything but hop off and bring back a mouse. Checkmate looked at it and then nosed it curiously. He watched the she-cat bound off after her own breakfast, and then turned to the other tom.
"Is she... always like that?" he asked, trying to sound politely curious, although he was mostly amazed at the volume of words that could come out of her mouth.
And he was still practically standing on his toes.

Never going to hear the end of it, he gave in and began eating the bird much to his discontent. Even when she began playing with the frayed ends of his scarf. He looked back to the other tom once he was done. "Unfortunately, yes." He stated, answering his question.

Leaving the ends little Ninjaheart was off once again, vanishing into the brambles and thicket. She was gone longer this time, and, lucky for the tom-who-she-didn’t-know-his-name-yet the she-cat had missed his question and wasn’t around to answer it her own way. When she came back, minutes later, her tail was waving high in the air and she looked really really proud. Dangling from her jaws was a decently sized rabbit. “Brummphformghnmiae.” Really shouldn’t talk with your mouth full there Ninjaheart. The she-cat settled down to munch at her kill, spatting out fluff and fur as she plucked an area clean to dig into. Suddenly…
Grrr…
Grrr? Whatwasthatitwasn’therbellyomg…Ninjaheart slowly looked up from her kill and over her shoulder to the dog who had stepped from the bushes (having followed her back here after she made the kill and all) was growling behind her. “Uh…hi there!” The dog wasn’t friendly, she could see that quite clearly as she looked at her image in its sharp white teeth. As it stepped forward toward her, Ninjaheart flew to her paws and placed herself defensively between it and Silentmaw and the other tom. She had yet to hiss any; there was a sparkle of mischief and playful laughter in her yellow eyes instead. No, she wasn’t scared in the least bit, her show of bravado wasn’t show at all, it really was pure bravery! “Hey hey look at me look at me!” Shuffling the orange cat kept the dog’s attention, and after it lunged she was off zigzagging through the bushes with the full intent on leading it away from the other two.

At the scent of the dog, Checkmate had crouched, and gone so still as to not be there, watching wide-eyed. And then it had gone off after the she-cat, and he stood, bouncing forward several steps. Should he go after them? He looked towards the tom for leadership- he'd follow where the other went.
And what was a dog doing in Rogue Meadow, anyway? Checkmate didn't like it. They reminded him too much of coyotes... alas, the time for slipping quietly and quickly away was past. He ducked his head for a moment.
Yes, he'd follow.

Idiot. Now she'd have to deal with the dog on her own. Not that the black tom knew what it was doing here, but had to have been after the same rabbit Ninjaheart manage to get a hold of. It was the only logical reason he could think of.
He noticed the other tom was looking at him for what to do in this kind of situation. It was simple. Silentmaw was going to go help her. Even if she can take care of herself a dog was nothing small to go up against. He darted after them in order to make sure the orange she-cat wasn't harmed. Although she was a constant bother, he wouldn't allow a dog to take her life.

Checkmate paused for a moment before tearing off after the other tom, still moving like a quiet ghost. He ran alongside, several feet away, thinking this a better method of taking the dog by surprise.
Why, oh why, were they trying to take a dog by surprise? This was a very bad idea. That was a very large...
And he nearly crashed head on into a rock. With a yowl of annoyance at the inanimate object, he gathered his paws and jumped somewhat clumsily over it. He landed more to the side than originally thought, and nearly careened into the scarfed tom, skidding to avoid him, and somehow keeping up at the same time.

Oooooo, those idiots! When Ninjaheart got her paws on them she was going to berate them roundly for doing such a thing. She had everything planned and all, it would’ve been so easy to give the bulky dog the slip after she led it far enough away from the two toms, but the moment she realized that Silentmaw and the other tom had chosen to follow the she-cat just wanted to face plant the ground a few times in frustration and sigh. At least, she figured, it showed that her stalkee cared enough to come after her when she went off into danger. It was something, and she wouldn’t forget it anytime here soon. Oh no. The snarl and hot breath of the canine at her heels brought Ninjaheart’s mind back to the situation at hand, how to rid herself of the dog and get the other two away in one piece. Any thought on her own safety and if she managed to escape too didn’t once cross her mind as the orange she-cat turned on the dog in mid-run, yowling in battle fury as she repeatedly slashed the dog across its face. The dog bayed loudly, shaking its head as small ribbons of blood flicked from the cuts and went for her again. Ninjaheart barely flinched as those sharp teeth clicked together just inches from her body, the dog actually clipping off a tuff of her orangey pelt, diving towards then under the canine to slip out the other side. Stupid brute looked lost a moment before it found the she-cat, who had stop and was waving her tail all mockingly at it. ‘I haveta do soooomething to get this dog away.’ Yellow eyes looked around, trying to judge her situation when there was an eighty pound furry beast slavering and coming for her, and two dumb toms who were coming to try to help. Idiots! She was the great Ninjaheart! She didn’t need help in taking out a dog!
When the two toms finally came into sight the dog’s attention almost immediately reverted to them. Bristling it slowly, stiff-legged stalked towards the two, hungry eyes looking between them as if it were trying to decide which to go for first. Which, to Ninjaheart’s horror, the gaze settled on Silentmaw and with a snarl, the canine lunged. ‘No! Nononononononnonononononono!’ Terror and anger filled the little she-cat and she ran forward, muscles bunching in her body and sending her airborne onto the dog’s back with a wild shriek of anger. Her claws dun into the course, shaggy fur and, as the dog yelped in pain, her teeth sought somewhere, anywhere!, to bite down into as hard as she could. The ear was the first thing she managed to grab, and she held onto it with all she was worth even as the foul taste of the dog’s blood swelled through her taste buds. Uhhhh. Terrible! It was safe to say that the dog was no longer paying much attention to the two toms when he had the furry ninja kitty on his back doing her damnedest to rip him a new one. Ninjaheart managed to keep her hold on him, her yellow eyes clenched shut until she felt the dog snarl and twist, then heavy jaws clamping around her body and pressing down hard, tearing her from her grasp on its back and ear. She squeaked in pain, lashing out wildly with a front paw and clawing right into the dog’s eye. It perhaps had been her one lucky break; the dog shook its head and threw her to the side as hard as he could instead of just tearing her to shreds right then and there. The little she-cat slammed into the ground a good three meters away, her entire body one big hurt, senses swimming with the pain. But the pain faded away, and all she felt was numb and cold, and one by one her other sense begun to fail her, fading away as darkness fuzzed over her mind. The last thing her eyes saw before her vision faded and unconsciousness seized her was Silentmaw and the dog face to face…

What if they didn’t decide to help her out and she got into major trouble? She would be dead or have escaped. Nothing was for certain with a big dog going after a little cat. Silentmaw wasn’t showing too much fear when the dog spotted him and Checkmate. Instead he raised his fur and unsheathed his claws, prepared to attack. He was prepared to charge into the fray but stayed into position. Since he noticed Ninjaheart leap upon the canine’s back and start clawing and biting at mutt. Hues glanced over to see what Checkmate was going to do before his head snapped back in time to see the dog bite down on the she-cat and toss her aside like a rag dog. “NOOOOO!” He yowled loudly. At least one of the mutt’s eyes was damaged so it would have trouble seeing properly. Muscles bunched in his hind legs, he took off like a shot, aimed directly at the dog’s face. Except the dog had a different idea and went to snap his jaws onto his flesh.
Silentmaw just barely twisted his body out of the way as he could feel ivory fangs close mere centimeters next to his flesh. Before the dog had time to snap its jaws at him again, the sleek black tom leaped at its face and wildly clawed while trying to damage the other eye. He quickly darted off when all four paws landed back on the ground and tried to lead the dog away from Ninjaheart. He turned back around in order to swipe at the dog’s nose, since it decided to follow him, as he let out a hiss. Climbing a near by tree was out of the option as the dog can easily go back to Ninjaheart or Checkmate.

Checkmate had stopped beside Silentmaw when the dog had spotted them, puffing up like an angry featherduster, trying to look intimidating. Then the fool she-cat went after the dog again, and got thrown aside. After a moment's thought, Checkmate went for the dog's hind end, as Silentmaw was attacking the dog's face. If they could get it away from the she-cat, perhaps they could chase it off.
Since the dog was currently distracted, Checkmate snuck around behind it. He didn't jump yet, waiting to see if Silentmaw would warn him off. Above all, he didn't want to mess up any plans the tom had.
But if he could get the dog to face him, then Silentmaw could attack from behind, and sooner or later the dog would get fed up and run on home. This was his best idea of a plan, because he just couldn't rely on brute strength- he was too small. He was much better at strategy. Hopefully Silentmaw would understand what he wanted to do... otherwise he was out of ideas for the moment.

In all honesty Silentmaw couldn't do this alone but wasn't going to stop or tell Checkmate to help out.

Checkmate hoped he'd accurately read the signals that Silentmaw wasn't giving him very well. Throwing caution and common sense to the wind, Checkmate crouched and sprang in one smooth motion, landing on the dog's back, claws on all four feet digging into the dog's fur and flesh for purchase.
"Brute! Run home, you stupid beast!" he yowled in a panic. Now what was he going to do?! Hold on for dear life, that was what.

With the dog occupied with thrashing about to try and get the feline off of him, the black tom took the time to run to the back and bite the canine's hind leg. This should be enough to make him run back on home.

Oh dear. Checkmate held on as long as he could, but eventually he had to let go. As the dog thrashed around, he let go. With an indignant yowl, he was flung off, landing on his side. His foreleg twisted under him, and something popped. He didn't think anything was broken, but when he tried standing, his leg would bare no weight. He gritted his teeth and stood up, growling at the dog and the situation in general, keeping off of his leg.
He limped to the she-cat, hoping Silentmaw could handle the rest on his own. Next to the she-cat, he crouched down, being as small and inconspicuous as possible.
And it seemed the dog had finally had enough. With one last halfhearted snap at Silentmaw, it glared around and then ran off, tail between its legs, to nurse its wounds. When he was sure it was gone, Checkmate moved from his uncomfortable crouch.
"Sorry," he said, although it wasn't clear what exactly he was apologizing for.

Silentmaw jumped back when the dog went to snip at him one last time before leaving. Great. Checkmate got hurt while helping to protect Ninjaheart. "No need to apologize when you were helpful." He stated as he padded over to him and the fallen Ninjaheart. Yellow-green hues looked down at her before he nudged her with a paw to wake her up. Why did others have to suffer around him and why did they want to be around him when they were bound to get hurt? Why couldn't he have jumped in right away to help her out before she got thrown by the mutt? Those were just a few things running through his mind.
