“I’m booored Brokendawn. Entertain me!” The young black tom danced around the still and silent form of a tabby she-cat with semi-long fur. He was a vibrant looking young thing, but it was obvious that the two cats had been traveling for a long time. His ebony fur was unkempt and filthy, but it was as if he didn’t care enough about it to even clean himself off. Then again, Mania really didn’t care about it. Being dirty was as good as being clean to him, better even, cuz if he wanted to kill someone the filth threw off his scent.
Silence.
“C’mon, don’t be such a stick in the mud!” He yowled loudly, pawing at the cold-hearted cat a few times lightly as if he was attempting to entice her into a game.
She barely blinked.
Oh, give in and play with him Brokendawn. It’ll shut him up at least for a little while.
The tabby did blink then, as an all too familiar voice ebbed and filtered through her mind. It does not require your interference Scheme. Why don’t you go back to your corner of my mind and return to sleep? Brokendawn flicked the tip of her tail, once, signaling her mild irritation at 1) being bothered by Mania and 2) Scheme’s awakening and voice.
Because, dearest Brokendawn, you and I are one and the same. And I’m boooored like the tom. Let me take charge of the body for a little bit.
Never.
“You have that look on your face again. Scheme’s talking to you, huh?” Mania, for all his faults and actual imprisonment by the schizo she-cat, wasn’t a stupid cat. He had been in the company of her…them...whatev for so long he was used to the silent exchanges that left him completely out.
Brokendawn looked up, a vague sense of being startled breaking through the dangerous shields she placed between herself and the world, before her gaze ventured out across the waters of the oasis. She did not answer the young black tom’s question. She did not acknowledge Scheme’s request.
With an irate snarl, Scheme slunk back into Brokendawn’s conscious.
Mania yawned and plunked down on the ground next to the tabby she-cat, apparently very very VERY bored, “Where are we anyway?”
