A small white figure trotted brightly through the swaying grasses of the fields. She had heard of 'Clans', but had no idea where to find them, so she decided to just roam around till she did find them.
"Konnichiha? Dareka gakokoniimasuka?" the young Japanese Bobtail called out. Kanashimi hadn't every been in a land where the cats residing there couldn't understand her language, and it didn't occur to her that the felines here may not speak Japanese.

You'll never take me alive
The words were different; the voice, foreign. A newcomer, and a Japanese-speaker to boot. For a moment, Kestrel felt a faint flare of familiarity. She had known a Japanese cat... But it faded. This cat was simply a wandering loner.
Kestrel stepped curiously from the long grass, her head tilted. She racked her mind for the meaning of the she-cat's words and found them.
Bowing her head, Kestrel meowed, with some difficulty, "Konnichiha, neko. Doush*te maro sa?"

"Aa! Anataga bubun no Clan?" Kanashimi meowed, bubbly. The bright young Japanese Bobtail she-cat jumped to her paws, sat down, then jumped back up. She did this for a while, even as she said the next words.
"Watashi ha sanka sh*temoyoidesuka? Watashi ha sanka surukotowo nozon deimasu! Watashi ha Kanashimi desu. Anatano namae ha nande suka?" the energetic young she-cat purred, her words streaming out fast. Kanashimi trotted around the older gray and white she-cat, observing her. She seemed as if she was a leader - could she be a leader of a Clan? When she got back to face her, she looked into the she-cat's eyes. One was striking yellow and the other, a cool blue. She smiled. Her own light blue eyes, one tinted with copper, shone with excitement.
[ 1. Ah! Are you a part of a Clan? ] [ 2. May I join? I would love to join! My name is Kanashimi. What is your name? ]

You'll never take me alive
Kestrel paused, taken aback by the she-cat's cheer. It was a refreshing thing to see, if a bit unusual around these parts.
"Maro shinpuku henchou ko^rudo Kestrel," she told her. "Maro tousotsu waga keibatsu Risingclan. Maro mai mai yuutai. sh*tai, shikashi korera yuu yuu taru bai mata maro gogatsu hitsuyou tatakau."
She was getting better, but there were some words she still couldn't grasp. Japanese was slightly free to interpretation, though.

"T-tatakai masuka?" Kanashimi stuttered. She really didn't like fighting. "Watashi ha tatakau kotogadekimasu, shikashi, sorede odoroki dehaarimasen." The young Japanese Bobtail's eyes dulled at the thought of battle. She didn't like cats getting hurt unnecessarily, but if it was for the greater good...Kanashimi would fight for RisingClan.
Suddenly she brightened up. "Sorede watashi ha sanka sh*temoyoidesuka?"
[ Fight? ] [ I can fight, but I'm not great at it. ] [ So I can join? ]

"Risingclan renza. Yaku tomoni ato satsujinteki keibatsu ko^rudo Boneclan. Karera ryuu mata abura na. Fuka keibatsu. Chin tatakai daizai koshirae ru za bokusouchi kotonashi shi," Kestrel said gravely.
She surveyed the she-cat silently for a moment, the purring of the wind in her ears, then added, "Shikashi maro yoroshi i chikarazoe amari michibata nimo."
Kestrel paused, then nodded. "Kanashimi, yuutai tsuki Risingclan," she purred. "Maro hanashi eikoku?"

Kanashimi listened in awe. What cats could do such horrible things?! Regarding the last question, she smiled. "Yes, I do," she purred, her accent heavy on the words spoken.
"How else could I help?" she asked, tipping her head to the side and picking her words carefully - she only knew basic English. What other way to help was there than fight? Perhaps healing, but...RisingClan probably had a healer, didn't they?

Kestrel smiled, glad to speak in her own language. Now her words flowed swiftly and elegantly. "You can hunt, or help Burningflower care for the kits. We have four kits in our Clan, and they're growing fast." She chuckled warmly, remembering the inquisitive faces of those young cats.
Flicking her tail, she meowed, "Come, and I shall lead you to camp."

Kanashimi smiled. Although she was only six moons old, the young Japanese Bobtail loved kittens and wanted to have many someday.
"I can do both of those," she mewed brightly. As if to prove to Kestrel that she could hunt, 'Kana' scented the air. A familiar scent of rabbit met her scent glands, and she saw the movement from the corner of her eye. She turned and pounced, sinking her claws into the rodent's fur.
Of course, Kana didn't like killing - at all. But if it meant helping RisingClan, she'd do it.
ooc; to Life in RisingClan.
