o~c Walking with Chainless }

[Lucky]

Silverwhisker padded along the rock maze. The fresh-kill in the dock leaf on his tail dangled as he walked. It would take a long time to get through here; but that was good for him, because the tom could talk with Chainless on the way. "So tell me again, what's your job in StoneClan?" he asked, as he walked along with the she-cat, letting his pelt touch hers.

[Chainless]

“My job?”

The pure white she-cat padded silently beside the tom, her two-toned gaze lifting to greet the sky above for a moment, before she chose to answer.

“I’m the clan’s medicine cat.”

Did he knos what the meant?

Did she dare to even hope he didn’t?

Did Chainless dare to break from the rules Starclan laid for her? Did she dare…

Ah, but it was soon, so soon. The lonely she-cat wanted a friend.

[Lucky]

Silverwhisker stopped dead and looked to Chainless. "The.. the Medicine Cat?" The gray tom's tail drooped. The fresh kill in his bayleaf almost fell off it. Realizing how crazy he must look, he kept walking.

"That's a nice job..." he said sadly, realizing he'd be braking StarClan's wishes if he had a real relationship with this cat.

"But I... I really liked you... a lot..." he mumbled.

[Chainless]

“You…”

Chainless stopped dead, her own turn to stare at the tom.

“But Silverwhisker, we barely even know each other. Even if I was just a normal warrior, even if….”

Even if she could have made that decision; they would have to know one another better for something such as that. But…

But…

Starclan, why do you test me now?
Maybe your faith isn’t as strong as you had thought, my dear.

Chainless shook her head, trying to discard the echo of her father’s voice which always lingered there.

“Silverwhisker…”

Silverwhisker stopped again, this time turning his whole body to face Chainless.

"I know, my dear... believe me I know..."

"You were just a great cat and all, and I thought we could have a beutiful friendship together..."

"...Maybe even more beutiful than I thought!"

The tom's legs gave way under him as he sat down, his fresh-kill slamming into the ground. At least it was protected by its temporary leaf home.

Silverwhisker's eyes searched hers, looking for emotion, for feelings, maybe even for him. He gulped as he anticipated what the Medicine Cat was going to say next.

[Chainless]

“We can be friends Silverwhisker.”

Her voice was quiet, the pure white she-cat looking at the ground. It was hard to read the emotion within those two-toned hues, but there was, briefly, pain.

“There are no laws stopping me from having friends.”

A lot of clan cats seemed to think that. But a medicine cat could have friends. They just couldn’t…

Her gaze lifted, one blue eyes, one green, settled on Silverwhisker. The pain had returned, a part of her that had never gotten to be free, to love, shining as well. Btu then it was sealed away, as quickly as it had escaped.

Chainless had always been alone, even when there were other cats around her. Hannibal’s brainwashing had damaged a part of her, and she wasn’t certain that it could be fixed.

“I’d dearly like to be friends.”

[Lucky]

Silverwhisker shrugged off his dissapointment, but his voice certainly showed it, "Friends... Just friends... Alright..."

The gray tom raised his head as he caught site of the StoneClan camp. He was happy he was finally home, but his words kept ringing in his mind:

Friends... Just friends...

[Chainless]

“I didn’t say…”

Could Chainless continue? To continue would be to break Starclan’s wishes. But to not…

The white she-cat just wished to be able to follow her heart for once in her life.

“I’d like to get to know you better.”

[Lucky]

Silverwhiskers eyes brightened, and a smile shifted across his lips as he looked to the Medicine Cat.

"Yeah?!" he said, "I... I'd... I'd like to get to know you better too!"

Now, what had the she-cat said that she didn't mean? Did she want to have a relationship with him? The tom hoped so, for he really liked this cat.

[Chainless]

“That good!”

She had almost feared that Silverwhisker didn’t want anything else to do with her after he found out she was the medicine cat. That two-toned gaze lifted, looking at the camp for a long moment. Then, she sighed. There? There was a grand bunch iof cats, the clan she’s live and die for if it came down to it.

There were the cats who would have her follow Starclan’s guide, and Starclan’s guide only.

I want to live for myself for once.

[Lucky]

Silverwhisker chuckled outloud and let out a mmrow of laughter. Before stepping one paw into camp he said, "Well sweetheart, I guess I'll see you around," then licked the tip of Chainless' ear before bounding into StoneClan, his new home.
