A Quick Expedition

Maplepaw stepped into the clearing. He hadn't been to this place before, and the lack of trees took him a moment to comprehend. The sunlight shone through with a golden brilliance, and he lowered his body to the ground, listening for the scuffling of prey. When he was more experienced, he would begin to hunt from the trees, but he kept to the ground for the time being.

He pricked his ears forward as he caught sight of a rabbit to wards the edge of the clearing, it's stance slightly lazy in the bright light. The rabbit's guard-hairs stood out from the rest of it's coat, and created a glowing illusion around the rest of it's body that also made it incredibly easy to spot.

The apprentice's paws crept steadily along as he prepared to pounce, his green eyes wide and glowing with anticipation...

The creature was unaware. Now was his chance.

((OOC: Ah...no one feel obliged to post here. I just had to make the thread. It'd bug me to just say that he left and came back. D: I'll just continue the thread and head back to camp if no one replies by tomorrow. :3 ))

<sub>The movement was quick and silent.. Nobody would have noticed his come without a practiced ear. Something the golden tom had lack of on his left side.. He darted out, scooping up the rabbit with a paw and mouth, then jumping up at it and coming down at it, pinning it under his paws. The hare was already dead from shock.

He planned to keep the kill for himself.. He thought he'd spotted it first until he noticed Maplepaw sitting there in the brush, looking ready to pounce. He gave a shifty eye and shuffled his feet. Ah, for Rainfall and her kits. Mighty nice she had them; they'll come as use to Treeclan. He said, trying to cover himself up.

He was decietful. Only Bane, Heartless and He knew of his plot. But Amberstar was determined to find the truth.. She didn't know what she was getting herself into.. Playing tricks and lying..? He was becoming talented at it.

He smiled to the young apprentice. Even as an alleged Treeclan warrior, he couldn't help but be fond of the young cat. He seemed to be Goldenblaze's only friend here.</sub>

All exhilaration faded from the apprentice's eyes when he saw Goldenblaze slay the rabbit. His feelings turned to surprise, as he hadn't sensed the golden cat's approach at all. "Hello, Goldenblaze," he said, panting slightly, "I didn't see you leave camp..."

He stepped forward and smiled. "Thank you for catching that rabbit. I probably couldn't've. I've never caught a rabbit before. Rainfall's kits will need more food than just a rabbit, though, so I suppose I should be getting something else as well."

He turned about, wondering where he should venture next.

((OOC: Lawl...little innocent kitten. Absolutely NO idea what's going on. ))

((Jes.. Innocent little kitty. I'll feel bad for him when he finds out who he REALLY is. ;D))

<sub>He snickered, whiskers twitching as he let out a silent 'mrow' of contentment. Innocent kit, didn't know what the hell was going on! He padded away. Yes, takes a silent cat like me to sneak up, unseen.. Unheard. He smiled. My, he was getting better!

But Maplepaw was just an apprentice. He probably didn't have the skills to sense him. If he joined Boneclan? So many things would change for that kit... Speaking of apprentices..

You'll have a new den-mate now. Mudkit, I think it is, is about to be apprenticed by the father of the new kits... Thunderstep, I think it is? He seemed excited. He'd heard the news just before his departure.. And that black cat.. How suspicious he seemed.</sub>

Maplepaw stopped and turned around. "Really? That'll be great! I haven't had the chance to meet another kit my age since my sister..." he trailed off slightly at the thought but then perked up again, "Do you know of any good hunting spots around here? The clan probably needs food too, not just Rainfall."

((OOC: Uh...I've never RPed as a young'n before. I hope I'm making him sound younger than the other kitties. XD ))

((You're doing fine! As long as you don't make him say really really big words most cat's don't know, you're fine. Usually I cut down the words for a cute edge.. Such as 'dunno' or 'watcha doin'.

_{He kept easy pace with the young tom, tail flicking gently. He didn't question any more, but nodded softly. Yes, I found the food stock is running low. Perhaps we should hunt for both Rainfall and her kits, and the clan? He probably wouldn't follow through with it.. Break the warrior code, eat before the clan.. But he knew he had to bring something home.. Lest they get suspicious.}

Maplepaw looked up suddenly, spying a squirrel that was eavesdropping on their conversation. "Maybe we won't have to go to another area after all...I'm gonna try to go after that squirrel. It'll be interesting," he smiled, "You could probably go on back to camp, I guess."

He began to climb up a nearby tree, spying a branch near to the one that the squirrel was perched on. He could reach it easily from there. He was on the lowest branch before waiting for a reply from Goldenblaze.

<sub>He watched the young tom jump upon the tree and run up to the lowest branch. He shook his head. No, i'll go find some more food.. Y'know, Mice, shrews.. Maybe a few birds. He stalked into the grass, in the opposite direction of the camp.

Change of plans; the young tom wasn't going hunting, but to a destination of great interest to him.. Boneclan, here he comes once more.</sub>

((OOC: If I understood that right, Goldenblaze is going to report to Boneclan. Bonk me over the head if I mis-interpreted that. ))

Maplepaw crept along the branch. The squirrel had nowhere to go, and quickly had to decide between a jump to the ground and an apprentice clan-cat. It jumped, but as it attempted the escape, it's claw caught on the branch and it flipped in mid-air, landing stunned on the ground. Maplepaw scaled down the tree and finished the rodent off.

"Erm...'bye..." he said, as Goldenblaze left. He trotted eagerly back to camp, carrying the squirrel pridefully.
