By the time she managed to find the big oak, Andromeda was mostly dry. She mentally berated herself for her inability to find it. It was a GIANT tree, and yet she'd had issues. How did that even happen?
She stood at the base, waiting for Medium, hoping she hadn't lost him. He would be much harder to find than an oak tree.
After a moment, she tilted her head to the side. Could she climb that? She'd never tried climbing trees. But it looked nice up there, in all those branches. Mabe she should wait for Medium... Then, if she proved utterly useless at climbing the tree, she'd at least have someone to laugh about it with.

Medium jogged after Andromeda, looking in rather higher spirits than usual.
Upon stepping into the shadow of the Tall Oak, Medium looked up into the branches. A rather reckless look came to his muddy amber eyes.
He glanced to Andromeda, and, with a crafty grin, padded toward the tree.
The brown tom scaled the tree in a flash; in moments, he was balancing delicately on one branch, the wind ruffling his fur.
Medium closed his eyes. Contrast was not here to steal the spotlight...not that Medium had ever been truely in the light, but sometimes a sliver of light fell across it; but Contrast's shadow engulfed him. She was prettier and smarter and friendlier, more open and trusting and freely generous, more memorable, more perfect, then Medium could ever be.
Medium blinked his eyes open and looked down to see Andromeda standing below him. Did she, too, sometimes feel shunned? Of course, she -like Contrast- was prettier and kinder than Medium -for he was insecure deep down, as it had to be, what with his uncertain upbringing-...but maybe she understood.
Medium leaned over and reached out one paw, claws unsheathed. "Need help?" he meowed, his voice friendly. If she wanted, Medium could help Andromeda up, and they could both enjoy the view.

Andromeda looked doubtfully up at Medium.
I very well might... but maybe I can figure it out. Every once in awhile she did get a bit of a stubborn streak where she felt the need to prove that she was good at something other than singing and... standing around.
She took a bit of a running start and tried to climb the tree. Well, she at least figured out that she had to use claws to hold on, and even got a little bit off the ground. Maybe a regular jump's height. She laughed. Well, it'd been worth a try. Now she was just kind of clinging to the side of the tree, a bit like an overgrown, fuzzy squirrel.
Yes, I think I do need help. Or I might be at this all day! She admired the speed with which Medium had just run up that tree. He made it look easy!

Medium gave an appreciative laugh. He leaned down, his back claws digging into the wood of the tree, and moved to hook Andromeda's scruff with his claws and haul her up.
"You're gonna have to help me," he warned, pulling up.

Andromeda used her claws and her legs to their best ability to scramble up the tree with Medium's help. She reached a branch, and crouched down on it. This was a little far from the ground. Once she'd gotten over that, however, she stood up a little, and discovered really, it wasn't that hard to balance. She flashed a quick grin at Medium.
"I think we could see the whole territory from this tree," she said, glancing up into the upper branches. They went up a pretty good way. She was also happy staying right here. Andromeda wasn't too embarrassed to admit she'd never be one of those daredevil cats. I just see it coming. She's gonna end up getting stuck in that tree, or something. Maybe. Poor Andromeda.

Medium returned the grin, looking quite pleased.
Revolving on the spot fearlessly, he surveyed the terrain. "I bet you're right," he replied. Medium glanced up, and without warning, launched himself upwards.
"You can see the Rogue Meadow from here," he called, grinning down on her from some three or four tail-lengths above.

Andromeda sat and craned her neck to look up at Medium. A little grin was apparent on her face as she watched him perching up there.
"Yes, well, I fear I should never get down if I worked my way all the way up there," she said, and then looked down past her paws, "It may be interesting even getting me down from here. Want to tell me about it, instead?"
She crouched down on the branch, perfectly happy with laying on the wide branch, one back paw dangling off. She put her head on her paws, but rolled her eyes up, just able to glance Medium that way. But she didn't do that for long. Rolling your eyes like that was enough to give you an awful headache, and she didn't want that. It'd cut this lovely day short...

Medium purred. "Ah. Well, ok."
He glanced at the Meadow. "It's a meadow, first of all," he meowed mock-seriously. "And it's full of rogues..."
With startling suddeness, Medium leaped recklessly from his branch and landed next to Andromeda, nearly toppling right into her.

Andromeda flicked an ear. She was about to ask Medium if he could actually see any rogues out there. However, just as she opened her mouth to ask, he hopped from his branch and landed on her's. She jumped up as he nearly ran into her. But she was figuring out how to stick to these branches- she didn't manage to fall off the branch. It was probably a good thing.
"Have you ever managed to fall out of a tree?" she asked, sitting back down. Bleh. My muse abandons me.

"What, me?" Medium said, laughing. "Of course, all the time!"
Glancing to Andromeda, he added, "It's not like there's anything wrong with that. Some cats are good in trees. Some...aren't."
He punctuated his words with a flick of the tail, and leaned forward. The brown tom nearly toppled headfirst off the branch; he gripped the bark with his claws and hung on, dangling precariously, chuckling. "See?" he grinned up at Andromeda.

Andromeda giggled, resisting the urge to prod Medium as he clung to the tree branch. Her own claws were lightly digging into the branch, and she wasn't even doing anything.
"I think I'm of that last group. I never learned how to climb trees in the meadow... my mom and dad weren't big on it. Maybe I could learn, though. Seems like fun," she answered padding back and forth along about two feet of the branch, very carefully. Her tail helped her keep her balance... other than that it was getting used to walking on a tree branch instead of solid ground. Her ears perked forward as she watched her feet, her tongue just sticking out of the corner of her mouth. She was concentrating, like a little kid on a coloring book. At least this close to the trunk, there wasn't any movement to speak of from the branch. She paused in her single minded pacing experiment, claws no longer quite digging into the bark, just touching it with the tips.
"It's worth a try, anyway. Who knows when you'll have to go up a tree?" she added.

"It's really just like walking on land," Medium said, climbing up and trotting lightly along the branch. "You just can't think about how high up you are. You're really not that high up anyway; especially if you think of how far the rain falls." He pointed with one paw. "See, where do you think it falls from? Either way, that's much farther than we'll ever have to worry about."
He glanced at Andromeda, watching her balance on the branch. "Imagine that you're just running across a log on the forest floor," he suggested.

Andromeda looked up to the sky, and thought about raindrops for a moment. They came from clouds, and clouds were way up there. But they didn't have bones to break if the fell. Oh well. You never learn unless you try!
And stars fall much farther even then rain. Not that Andromeda thought she was one, that was just her name. What a silly thought.
She gave Medium a look that might have implied she thought he was nuts, and then straightened up, looking ahead and a little down, but not all the way down. One cautious step, and another... this was like walking on a log in the forest. She grinned and walked a few more steps, not looking quite as uptight and worried.
Then, it was inevitable, she spaced out and forgot she wasn't on a log in the forest, and tried to whip around on a hind paw to tell Medium how awesome she was, or something. Well, she didn't fall, but after she whirled she swerved for a few moments, tail waving wildly as she caught her balance and crouched against the branch. Her claws dug right into the wood like the hadn't been before, holding her to the branch as well as logger's climbing shoes. When she was sure she had her balance and wouldn't fall right off, she stood up just slightly, laughing.
"I forgot it was off the ground!" she giggled. That had been kind of fun, in an Oh My Gosh I nearly died kind of way.

Medium flung out a paw to steady her, relaxing only when she regained her balance.
Chuckling, he meowed, "You just can't be afraid, y'know? Falling isn't so bad."
He gestured vaguely with one paw, watching Andromeda. Then he smiled and said, "See?"
Then he fell headfirst right off the treebranch.

Andromeda squeaked as Medium fell headfirst from the branch. She leaned forward to see if he was going to land on his feet, like cats were supposed to. Honestly, she kind of figured he would by now. Then again...
"I have to be crazy, or something," she meowed to herself hopelessly, contemplating the ground. She crouched, about to hop off the branch. And then she decided against it, and paused mid spring, looking indecisive. Getting down wasn't going to be as easy as getting up. Not being afraid was all well and good, unless you were really sort of a chicken.

Medium hit the ground with a spectacular whump, a cloud of dust rising to envelope him.
For a long moment, he was still. Then the dully-coated tom stirred, caughing and chuckling. He rolled to his feet and looked up, his dull amber eyes glinting. "See?" he shouted up at her. "Not so bad!"

She peered down at Medium, who looked, reassuringly, none the worse for falling out of the tree. Crouching lower to the branch, she waved her tail, like a kit about to pounce on something.
Then she hopped off the branch, and landed in a very ungraceful heap next to Medium. But she wasn't hurt, it seemed. She stood, licked some random tufts of fur back into place, and looked up at the branch.
"I guess it takes getting used to," she said, feeling all giddy from jumping off the branch.

Medium laughed, though not unkindly.
"Well, you just need-- Practice!" he called out, moving to push Andromeda over playfully.
All of a sudden, he was in a very good mood. He was warm and well-fed and healthy, strong as he'd ever been; there was a warm nest waiting for him when he returned, as well as fresh-kill; and he was in the presence of a cat who really seemed to get him. Or at least noticed him.

Andromeda squeaked as Medium bowled into her from the side. With a giggle she stepped sideways to avoid falling over.
"Practice, practice, practice. My mother used to tell me to practice. Practice watching the stars, practice if I wanted to sing better... Pretty much her solution to any complaint of not being good enough was to practice," she informed her friend.
Speaking of practice... hmmm, there was someone she was supposed to be teaching things, wasn't there? Yeah, there was. Oops.
"I should go find Nyria, before she forgets I exist at all," she said to Medium, regretting to cut this lovely outing short.
"But you could come too, if you want. The more, the merrier!" she added a second later. Now, where to find her apprentice?
