Now that Ripplepaw had been treated, and seen on her way back to the main camp, Umberpaw was taking some time to work on the medicine cat den; sorting herbs and storing them in their proper locations.
After all, she didn’t want to be out in the main camp. Sometimes she just liked to be alone.
Ah, but the unnaturally small feline wasn’t just whittling away her time. As she looked over her stores of herbs, her yellow hues took in each and every one.
They would need more.
And it would be difficult, now that Silverthroat appeared to have vanished, for her to gather them all alone.
How much time was left? How many of her friends would die?
Pain. Let’s not think of that.
The ebony she-cat turned, ready to head out of the den to wrangle one of the apprentices to assist her in carrying gathered herbs from the territory.

Andromeda poked her nose cautiously into the medicine cat's den.
"Umberpaw? There's someone out here who needs your help... and Murderkit got hold of my leg," she announced only loud enough to be heard. Her eyes were not instantly adjusted to the dark, so she didn't actually see Umberpaw until she looked straight at her for a second.
"Oh, hi. Sorry. I didn't see you," she said.

((We are)) peices of a falling star -- "And there's a cat with something broken out there," Medium's voice said.
The dully-coated tom stepped into the shadowy den, his head tilted. Muddy amber eyes picked out his new friend Andromeda as well as the medicine cat.

Yellow eyes blinked, taking in the two cats who had stepped into the den.
Andromeda, she knew and remembered from before. But she had not met the tom.
And Umberpaw’s memory was good – there was now way she could simply ‘forget’ someone. So he was new, at least to her.
“Hello.”
Although naturally quiet around those she didn’t know, the black she-cat smile at them.
“How bad is your leg?”
She questioned Andromeda, as she gathered what she needed to help treat a broken bone. Ah but what if it was an internal injury?
She paused.
“I had better see this other feline first, instead of brings herbs to her that may not be of any help.”
Maybe it wasn’t broke, but some other injury. She had to check.

"Actually, it's fine for now- Medium found some cobweb so it's not so bad. The other cat needs help far worse than I, at any rate," Andromeda answered the apprentice, backing up out of the way so she could get out of the den. As she mentioned Medium's name, she flicked her tail at him, so Umberpaw would know who she was talking about. Andromeda knew not many had even met the quiet tom.

[ Too lazy to switch accounts xP ]
Medium nodded. "The other cat -she's newer than I am- looks like she's in a lot of pain. What a nice guy you are, Medium! It's too bad you look so boring. Depressing, aye?

“Can you lead me to her?”
Her gaze was sharp, far far older than she herself was. Ah, but Umberpaw had to grow up fast.
Had to.
Then that yellow gaze blinked, turning to look at Medium.
“It is a pleasure to meet you. I hope we’ll get to speak together again sometimes, on better terms save for the injury of another.”

Rustshade had set down his fresh kill. He didn't take anything.. He wasn't hungry. But as he looked up, a large group of cats clustered around Umberpaw's den had caught his eyes.
He trotted forward, tail high as he reached his destination. He quirked his head to the fine apprentice, busily taking care of injured. He'd pondered at how her leg had gotten so bad, but as October came verring around the warrior, a yowling kit in his mouth roaring like an engine, he'd simply guessed it.
'Lo, Umberpaw! He spoke brightly to the black kit, almost an adult now. She was soon to be warrior-ized. That was something.
D'you need me to help you with gathering herbs, or helping her wound? His voice was brighter than it had been in months, but it was hard to be dull around the pretty she-cat.

As she awaited the others, a new, yet familiar, voice caught her attention. The piercing gaze moved, to settle upon one of her oldest, and dearest, friends in the clan.
“Hello Rustshade!”
She barely blinked at the sight of October running through the area clutching Murderkit in his mouth, that kit was dangerous. She feared that she’d have her work doubled, the longer he stayed in the clan.
And then if he grew, he could become strong enough to severely wound others.
“I would love to have some help. Andromeda here doesn’t look to be badly wounded, stopping the blood flow was most important. I’m going to give her some Chervil to help prevent infection, and if she’s in any discomfort a poppy seed. They were about to lead me to another wounded newcomer, would you like to join us?”

Rustshade smiled grandly. At least Murderkit was kept busy.. For now..
He sit back on his flanks, nodding. He was no medicine cat, sure, but he was a fast learner and keen to help his clan and his clanmates.
Rustshade nodded, tail flicking with happy contentment. Yes, yes! I would love to help! He said, anticipating such an event. He got up just as October made another round, circling the den as a catarwaul echoed over their heads. Rusty hardly flinched and he stepped forward. Yes, just show me what to do!

Shadowstreak bounded through the waterfall and into the camp. Shaking water from her fur, she placed her fresh kill into the pile and then trotted off, looking for Rustshade. As fate would have it, she spotted him quickly, standing with Umberpaw at her den. Suddenly her chest felt tight and she stopped midstep, wondering just what had hurt her. There was something about seeing him there that bothered her, but she couldn't put her paw on it.
Regardless, she strode up to the medicine cat den and sat near Rustshade. "Are you helping her gather healing herbs?" she asked, having overheard. "Mind if I help too?"

Would Andromeda have admitted her leg hurting even if it did? Probably not. She would have felt she was being a bother. Anyway, it didn't hurt, at least not at the moment. So she was saved the trouble of lying through her teeth. She wasn't very good at it anyway.
"It's fine, really. The other cat is over there," she said, stepping back and pointing with her muzzle to the injured cat across the clearing. There was no doubt which cat she was indicating. Andromeda grinned once, and did as she'd mentioned to Medium earlier- stopped taking up her space. It wasn't that she was being shy, as such. She was just being non-obtrusive. Then she looked for Medium.
"I think the mission is accomplished, unless Umber manages to get lost on her way across the camp. Which I highly doubt. Feel free to go exploring!" she said with a grin, not wanting him to feel like he had to hang around, if he wanted to go exploring.

((We are)) peices of a falling star -- Medium didn't need to try to be unobtrusive.
He watched the other cats thoughtfully for a moment, before turning his muddy gaze on Andromeda. He grinned slightly, a pleasant grin that made him look marginally less ordinary. "That I will," he meowed, nodding. He turned to pad from the den, but paused. He gestured vaguely with his paw to the camp outside and added, "Eh, you're welcome to come too, if you'd like." His voice was earnest.

Andromeda grinned, an echo of Medium's own grin. She flipped her tail for a moment, considering if she'd be berated later for running off before Umberpaw was done with her- she didn't know what Chervil was, but she felt certain she wasn't supposed to go racing off before she got it.
But she decided that just this once, she would deal with any possible berating later. With one last spastic twitch of her tail, she bounced after Medium.
"'Kay!" she laughed.

((We are)) peices of a falling star -- Medium cheered considerably. A new home, a chance to explore, a friend...it was shaping up to be a pretty good day, however it had begun.
He wondered for a moment were Contrast was, then dismissed it. She was probably having a good time. That was the only kind of time she had.
With a silly grin, the plainly-patterened tom leaped away, calling, "Race ya!"

Umberpaw had turned, about to ask Andromeda to hold still wish she had Medium took off. The small she-cat stood there with a bemused smile – was she that bad of a medicine cat apprentice that her patients run away from her?
Great time to be doubting yourself now, eh Umberpaw?
“Of course I’ll show you Rustshade.”
Then Shadowstreak padded up, and Umberpaw blinked, seeing her puzzling actions.
“And yes, you may join us as well Shadowstreak. The more, the merrier, right? Rustshade, can you help me carry these herbs over to the newcomer?”
A smile was flashed at her dear, dear friend; and she motioned to the proper herbs with a paw.

Blackheart smiled in a friendly manner at Shadowstreak, but paused as they exchanged puzzling looks.
What did they know that he didn't know? He gave a small smile at both females and followed Umberpaw softly. "Yes, Yes, I can' help you carry those. Here. Where do you want me to put them??" He asked softly, still watching both of his close friends closely. God, I suck.. Ha, poor Rustshade is clueless. <33

Shadowstreak smiled in return. She had to brighten up before he thought there was something wrong with her. Stepping lightly, making sure not to crush anything that Umberpaw may have gathered, she followed after Rustshade.
"Is there anything you need me to gather or move?" she asked Umberpaw.

“Over here.”
Umberpaw gathered a bundle of herbs for herself, the aroma pleasant and slightly sweet from the catnip added to it, then loped in front of the two over to where Timescar sat, attempting to keep her weight on her bad side. After gently dropping the bundle, she lightly sniffed and prodded the wounded leg, never putting much pressure on it.
“Well, I have good news. It’s only a bad sprain. You’ll hunt again.”
A smile was giving to Timescar, and the Umberpaw looked to Shadowstreak.
“Could you bring me some poppy seeds? I left the pod in my den, and Timescar will need several to ease the pain she must be feeling. Rustshade, could you lie those herbs down and come here? You wanted to learn about this, right? I’ll show you what a sprain looks like, so you know if the future if such an accident happens to one of your fellow warriors during a patrol, or such.”

Shadowstreak listened to Umberpaw's request and then nodded.
"On my way!" she said cheerfully, and dashed back into the den to retrieve the poppy seed pod. She returned with it a few minutes later and set it down next to Umberpaw. Then she seated herself and waited for more directions.
