Batkit was walking beside a river. This, in itself, was a great novelty, as the 3-month old had never seen a river. Walking through the field of grass, like an emerald blanket, she constantly looked down beside her at the silber river and her distorted reflection. Batkit's large ears were pitched forward, straining to hear everything, her nose trying to smell everything, and her eyes straining to see all. Everything about this new territory was fresh and exciting, despite her weariness.
But soon the memory of the Twolegs and her scattered comrades visited her again. Why was I so useless? she thought, frustrated. Even Gullkit growled at them, and she's the biggest baby ever! She had just sat there. But Batkit had, at least, not been the first one to run. But they had been so loud....
Lost in her bitter musings, Batkit had not noticed that she was drifting closer and closer to the edge of the river. Suddenly, she was on the edge, the mud slipping beneath her feet, right off the edge of the bank and into the rushing tide below.
The water grabbed at her fur, draggng her down and worming it's way through her coat to brush her with a icy touch. Batkit struggled mightily against the current, but her limbs soon began to tire. At last! Her paw caught a root jutting from the river bank, running through deep. She dug her needle-sharp claws into it and screamed, at first the wordless squeal of a kit in distress, but then taking on the form of a word:
HEEEEEELLLP!!!
And so she clung and screamed. But, just for a moment before she had hit the water, it had felt as though she could fly.

Lillystar was patrolling around the borders of her territory when she heard wailing coming from the river. Bounding across the slick rocks, she ran briskly toward the sound of the screams. When she reached the water's edge, she could see a kit hanging helplessly onto a root in the middle of the river. Heavy snows had fed the river for most of leaf-bare and now it ran deep and gushing, with the torrent coming ever closer to washing the kit away.
"Keep still, I'll get you out!" she shouted to the wailing yougster. Then she dived gracefully into the frigid water. Coming up for air, she paddled strongly against the current. Her sleek fur was used to swimming and her legs were strong, but the temperature was almost unbearable. Finally reaching the kit throught the choppy waves, she grabbed it by the scruff and seated it on her shoulders. "Now hold on tight!" she ordered and swam for shore. When she reached the muddy bank, she hauled herself out and fell to the ground. Her breath came in gasps, making white mist form around her head. "Are you alright?" she asked the kit, breathlessly.

Batkit coughed and sputtered, finally looking up at her rescuer. Ye-ye-yes, she stammered. I-I-I'm a-all right. Curse her nervous stutter! Th-th-thanks for say-ay-ayving me. Who a-are yu-you? She looked up at Lillystar, hero worship shining in her eyes. M-m'name i-i-is Batkit.

Sympathy lit Lillystar's eyes. The poor kit was clearly terrified and seemed to be on her own. She stood and shook herself off, droplets gleaming on her silky fur. She levelled her gold dust eyes to the kits and smiled gently.
"There's no need to fear me, everything is alright now... she said, as soothingly as possible. "My name is Lillystar and I am leader of the group of cats that lives behind the waterfall, MistClan." "You look alone and starved, would you like to come to camp...are you alone?"

Batkit winced. Was she alone? She guessed she was; if the others were still around, they wouldn't want anything to do with cowardly her. Ye-ye-ye M-m-m... After almost drowning, this new cat, and the memory of the dog attack, she was unintelligible. Batkit simply nodded, head down. But she wasn't afraid of this new cat; it was the first new face she felt she could trust.

The large she-cat felt that maybe her size alone was scaring the kit. It was perfectly natural to fear strangers, even ones who saved your life. She curled her tail around the kit gently, trying to calm her.
"Be calm...slow down and tell me what you can remember..."

Batkit did as her mama had taught her, opening her mouth wide and breathing deeply. The tail helped. S-sorry m-m-ma'am. I-I've alw-ways stut-tuttered, ever si-since I could ta-al-alk. She finally met the older she-cat's eyes. I-I'm f-from the Clan of Beasts. O-ou-r home was torn up b-by Twolegs. She wrinkled her nose in distaste. Tur-ur-tletail, L-l-lynxear an' Salmon-fl-flower got u-us kits ou-ou-out. The-en... th-er-ere we-er-er d-d-d-d. she shuddered. Dogs. A low, fearful hiss. Batkit nuzzled into Lillystar. And now I'm here. It was a typical kit's story, full of gaps. But it was her story.

Lillystar listened to the kit's words and deciphered them slowly. Nodding in sympathy, she leant down and gave the kit's ears a few licks. Smiling sweetly, she curled her tail more tightly around the fragile little body.
"Perhaps you'd like to come live with me, in MistClan?" she asked, her gold eyes shimmering with gentle understanding.

Batkit looked up from Lillystar's soft fur. I-I-I'd lik-ke that ver-rer-ry much! she said enthusiastically. A home again, in this beautiful green place, away from the still-raw misfortunes in her young life. But she was struck by it; she would never see them again. Antpelt, Thrushthroat, oh, and all the kits, her playmates. Joyful Bearkit, stolid Badgerkit, sarcastic Cougarkit, and all the rest. Never again. She took a deep, steadying breath. Yes. I would like to be in MistClan. And she did not stutter at all.

Lillystar gazed affectionately at the frightened kit, her huge ears stuck out so adorably. She slowly inwound her tail from around the kit's body and stood.
"All right, then come with me, I do hope that little "swim" didn't make you petrified of water..." she cautioned. "Because we MistClan cats have to walk through this waterfall to get into our home." She walked away from the kit and stoof near the waterfall, testing the temperature with her tail. "Are you coming?" she asked.

O-of course. Ah, not all good things lasted. Her stutter was back. But now she had a home. With this came an unusually strong apiphany for a kit, she could suddenly see her whole life stretched out before her. The dawn was coming, and she was ready to face the new day. Batkit stepped into the waterfall, and the brand new her.

OOC: You can post in the most recent camp thread now, but naturally Lillystar will not always be available. Since the boundaries threads are allowed to happen pretty much anytime that the leader is in her own territory, she might be somewhere else when Batkit arrives in camp. She is at the training area right now, in fact.
