They have a magnetic pull on their (often reluctant) fans. o.o
I thought The Sight was pretty good. There were some spots that irked me, but it might be better-- possibly they can recover their goodness. Or not. We shall see.
Though I see what you mean-- prophecy, prophecy, chosen cats, scandilous!cross-Clan pairings, more prophecies, more scandilous!pairings, some death, some battles...it follows a cohesive pattern I wish was less obvious. What the Warriors series needs is good, solid, understandable relationships (with cats of their own Clans o.o), less massive prophecies and more simple and dangerous plans...they need their old magic back. The danger and honor of the old series. -sighs- We shall see.

I know how both of you feel, particularly you Banemoose (X3). I have a bad time with change, particularly about books/movies/etc that I really really like. I noticed a HUUUGGGEEE difference between the series. It's like, Fireheart and Graystripe were best buddies and some drama here or there, but it followed the same pattern for the most part, with good twists, plots, and climaxes.
... And then came the second series. Don't get me wrong, I actually liked the series, but here's the thing: It would have been better if it was a series ALL ON IT'S OWN. Like, if it had nothing to do with the first series. Take Balto, for example. Growing up, it was one of my favorite movies, with lovable characters, plus it was based on a true story. AND THEN THEY WENT AND KILLED IT with the SECOND MOVIE! Not only was the first based on a true story, now they have his DAUGHTER running around 'noooz, mah hate you you is wulf! GAH! MAH MUST FUFILL PROPHECY!! >:U
The third one was a little more believable, but still relatively annoying. Kody bothered me...
The third series, or from what I can see about it, was actually pretty good, considering the predicament the second series had got itself into. Fair plots and not scandalous deaths and sudden 'omg I luv u' pairings. Gah...
The Sight was a brilliant book; I don't know how I would have TAKEN it if there was a sequel. The author is very sensible in coming out with single books, usually good selling books and brilliant writing style. And the characters are those to simply fall in love with, good OR bad. <33

Ah yes, Balto was totally overdone. The original's are always the best. And I can see what you mean, if the characters had nothing to do with Firestar, Graystripe etc. then it probably would have been a little better.
I also believe that characters aren't being as well thought out as the original was, probably because of the sudden stresses Erin Hunter has to fulfil deadlines and things, whereas in the first series, being new writers they had no deadlines, no particular fanbase that needed feeding. Take Bluestar - she was the best character in the first series, because she had a history, a good history, she had personality and she, despite being seen as this leader figure, was shown to go through bad stages too. This made for not only a good character, but a believable character - nobody is perfect. Although arguably characters still have a history, they're not as good in my eyes as Bluestar's was, and they don't have particular personality. Erin Hunter doesn't look at Brambleclaw and think... how would he react in this situation? Because as the main character, they believe he must be perfect, have no flaws, and despite them attempting to show that he might have some of Tigerstar in him, it doesn't show through his personality that he does, because in everything he does he has to be shown as the hero. He has basically been turned into the new Fireheart, who I also believe lacked personality. It isn't real that a character is perfect, unless you're in a fairy tale.
There's Miss Hypocrite talking xD But I am just relaying what I have learnt through criticisms I got for my stories.

Could one consider a character like Pripyat perfect? -ponders-
...I think Fireheart was a better character when he was young and uncertain. Early Fireheart and Firepaw days. On that topic, The Sight (the Warriors one xD) seems a bit better already because the characters don't seem perfect. Hollypaw is uncertain as to what she wants, and Jaypaw is certainly not perfect-- he's too emo and morose and reluctant for perfection. Lionpaw seems a tad perfect, though.

Remember when Graystripe fell ears-over-tail in love with poor Silverstream and left Brackenpaw with Fireheart? xD

Yes, but that's an exception; just because he has never trained an apprentice fully before (that I remember ^^') doesn't mean he can't train Millie well. After all, if he hadn't found Silverstream, he would have trained Brackenpaw much better. Millie was a sort of second chance. My opinion, anyways ^^' -shot- o.o

I like mostly everyone except for people that suck; like Breezepaw. He's soooooooooo rude! But my totally awesome favs are Stormfur and Jaypaw. Stormfur because he's awesome like that *huggles* "MINE!" and Jaypaw because he sounds so misunderstood. But Stormfur beats Jaypaw just 'cause Jaypaw kinda goes overboard with the 'woe is me!WOE IS ME!!!! "STORMFUR LIKES ME MORE THAN HE LIKES YOU, BROOK! *snuggles*

my definite favorite from the first series is (oddly enough) Bone. from the new prophecy (spoiler) Hawkfrost. and from the power of three(spoiler) Berrypaw. (he's a big pain in the tail)
