Only [ T i m e ] will tell.
The sun was slowly rising over the horizon, it's pale golden light just barely beginning to brighten the plains. The light showed a soft dusting of snow...Apparently it had flurried in the night, but the rock overhang protected the two apprentices, carefully nestled beneath it, from the cold flakes. It appeared as if the tall grass was shining...and for a moment, you could probably forget you were in the barren DuskClan plains. Slowly, Smokepaw's eyes flickered open, and for a moment he was startled, for he was not in the apprentices den back at DuskClan camp. But he soon settled once more, remembering that he had taken refuge there from the cold, along with Blackpaw. He raised himself into a sitting position, yet still able to feel the soft warmth of the still-sleeping she-cat. He have a shiver, ruffling his shoulderfur, and leaned back a bit in a strange stretch. Far off in the distance, against the rising sun, he saw the sillouette of the Abandoned Monster. Where would todays adventures lead him? Only time will tell...

Looky Looky,
Blackpaw woke slowly. She felt warm and comfortable; more so than she had been in a while. Out from the mouth of their alcove she could see a beautiful sunrise. It was like the plains were on fire with reds and yellows and oranges and a bit of purple, too. It lit the dew on the grass so that it looked like a field of diamonds outside. Pretty country, Blackpaw thought, much better than the city. There the sunrise had just lit the smog so that it looked like barf. Suddenly she realized that she was very close to Smokepaw. She rose and stretched.
Morning Smokey! she said cheerfully. So I take it that your leader hasn't arrived yet?

A new day has dawned And so have many possiblities. What to do?
Smokey? Wow, no one had called him that since his days of kithood....a tiny smile tugged at the corner of his mouth. He looked about slowly in a panaramic sort of way, across the plains, sarching for the petite black form of his leader. He sighed heavily, not seeing her.
'Friad not........ His eyes still scanned his home, the wide, stretching plains...the barb-wire fence way off yonder. The abandoned monster. And finally, to a spot far off in the distance, almost too far to be seen, but he still knew it was there....DuckClan camp. Hopefully he would return soon. But for now, he couldn't leave Blackpaw...he would feel terrible if some unfriendly cat happened upon her. So.......what do we do now?

Looky Looky,
I don't know, said Blackpaw. She wondered where this Sabrestar was. But, being the daughter of Giovanni, she knew that being a leader was a time-consuming occupation. Still, she thought that the country would be quieter. Ah, well. Does she have any lieutenants? Giovanni had had five in the city: Slyker, Juice, Reggie, Oxe..... Tragedy. Blackpaw stared into the sunrise, lost in thought.

Smokepaw felt terribly embarrassed, yes, Sabrestar had a second-in command. His mentor infact. But Hawkclaw had not been about recently either.
Yes...but it seems that all of DuskClan has sort of..................vanished... There was deep dispair in his voice. It was true. Almost all of old DuskClan was gone. He had not seen them for many a moon, and it pained him so. Would they ever return? Where had they gone to? And with his mentor gone...how would he ever train to be a warrior? But he straightened his back a bit, taking a deep breath, But..since Sabrestar isn't here yet...and most of DuskClan.. His voiced trailed off for a moment or two, I guess I could accept you into DuskClan. You seem fit to join.
He stood slowly, not bothering to shake the dust from his fur, and slunk off, head lowered, he headed in the direction of DuskClan camp. Smokepaw's mind was filled with the images of his clanmates. Where had they gone? To tell the truth...DuskClan must have been the Clan in the most desperate position of all, numbers dwindling to almost nothing. It pained him greatly to accept this. Tears begged to fall, but he would not let them, he was too proud for such things...and especially in the presence of a new member.

Looky Looky,
Blackpaw was thrilled to finally be a part of DuskClan. She had a place to stay, lands to hunt in, and a new source of training. All independant of Giovanni. But she could see that Smokepaw was ill at ease. Where could Sabrestar be?

Daylight's [ A ' b u r n i n ]
Smokepaw lifted his head a bit, looking back over his shoulder to where Blackpaw still sat. He stopped in his tracks and then looked out across the plains. He called over his shoulder, his voice had lowered itself to a hoarse whisper again, Come on. Daylight's a'burnin and we're sittin on our tails. There was a small hint of playfullness in his voice as he began to trot off into the tall grass.
[To Abandoned Monster. Once you reply, I'll start the thread]

Looky Looky,
Righto! Blackpaw said, trotting after Smokepaw. She pushed her way through the tall grass, determined to keep up with her fellow apprentice. Blackpaw was always trying to prove herself.
