Eventually, Pinepaw narrowed her questions down to the one she really wanted to know. She could always ask the others later, after all.

Ah yes. Loveless remembered. He remembered.

“His name was Hannibal. He was…well, our mother was more terrible than he was. But…he was different. Smart. I’ve never seen a cat as smart as him. Cold, hard to know.”

Pinepaw frowned. Blast it, now she wanted to know who their mother was. So she didn't ask, and chose a different question instead.

"How come Chainless looks like your father's sister? Or does the two colored eyes and white fur just run in the family? Or does she look like your mom, and it's just coincidence?" she asked. Then she chirped. She'd only meant to ask one question![/size]

His eyes grew misty, as he remembered.

“I never knew why they looked alike. Never really understood it either. I look like my father – we’re both black and white, and have yellow eyes. Mom…she was the color of the desert’s sand, with darker brown points. Only Misery looked like her. So…”

Loveless looked to Pinepaw with a slight smile.

“It must have been an odd coincidence.”
